(QNgTV) - China surpassed the US for the first time to become Vietnam's largest seafood import market in the first 6 months of this year.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in the first half of the year, the US imported about 905 million USD worth of seafood from Vietnam, up nearly 18% over the same period last year. However, after the sudden increase, the US market cooled down shortly after. In June, Vietnam's seafood exports to this country decreased nearly 18% over the same period.
Meanwhile, China is becoming a bright spot. In the past six months, our seafood exports to this market reached more than 1.1 billion USD, an increase of nearly 45% over the same period.
According to VASEP, China is increasingly tightening quality standards, but a more stable trade policy has made it easier for businesses to plan production and sign long-term contracts. The association believes that the overall picture of the industry is gradually recovering, with some large businesses also recording positive results.
In the first 6 months of the year, the country's seafood export turnover reached about 4.4 billion USD, an increase of nearly 7% over the same period in 2024. Although there have been signs of improvement compared to last year, this increase has not yet returned to its peak in 2022.
