Al Jazeera reported that the software revealed by Baidu is called Ernie.
Baidu CEO Robin Li said on March 16 that Ernie, known as Weixin in Chinese, is the result of "decades of hard work and effort by Baidu."
“In two rounds of conversation, chatbot Ernie demonstrated its logical reasoning capabilities,” said Li. “It not only knew whether the question itself was correct, but also provided the answer and specific steps to find the answer.”

At Ernie's reveal event in Beijing, Director Li showed off the chatbot's ability to generate conference posters and videos based on prompts, offer advice on the best event venues between several Chinese cities, and read documents in the Sichuan dialect.
Ernie also answered questions about a famous Chinese science fiction novel and summarized the plot of the book.
According to Director Li, the above features will be integrated into Baidu's Xiaodu smart device ecosystem.
However, Ernie functions better in Chinese than in English and can have difficulty with questions that have logical errors.
Unlike OpenAI's ChatGPT demonstrations, Baidu didn't demonstrate Ernie's capabilities directly, instead using a series of slides.
“There is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding Ernie’s capabilities, especially given the lack of a live demo,” Chinese tech analyst Chim Lee told Al Jazeera.
