At the working session, the working group informed the local Party Committee and authorities about the discovery of an unusual increase in the number of syphilis cases in Lao Chai commune recently, with 49/897 screening samples having positive results, accounting for 5.46%; the majority of cases are female (accounting for 57.1%) and mainly of reproductive age. This is an urgent public health issue because syphilis develops silently and discreetly but causes many dangerous complications such as cardiovascular syphilis, neurosyphilis; especially congenital syphilis, which leaves serious consequences for future generations. The syphilis screening and diagnosis plan will be implemented in the three communes of Pung Luong, Lao Chai, and Mu Cang Chai to detect early, treat promptly, cut off the source of infection, prevent syphilis transmission from mother to child, making an important contribution to protecting and improving people's health in the area.

Master, Doctor Tran Minh Hieu chaired the discussion with representatives of the Party Committee, local authorities and Mu Cang Chai Regional Health Center, and Commune Health Stations on the actual conditions when implementing some important contents in the plan, including: determining sampling points, making a list of subjects, pre-screening communication work, mobilizing people to participate, tracing high-risk cases and treatment for patients after detection. In particular, pre-screening communication work and mobilizing people to participate were identified as the most important tasks, requiring the drastic participation of the Party Committee and local authorities to ensure effective implementation of the plan. The working sessions agreed on specific implementation plans in each locality and received consensus, attention, direction and close coordination from local authorities.
Syphilis screening activities will be implemented from November 17 to 22, 2025 in the three communes of Pung Luong, Lao Chai, and Mu Cang Chai, contributing to improving people's health and providing additional epidemiological data to develop intervention solutions to prevent and control syphilis in the coming time.
