The wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument to President Ho Chi Minh took place solemnly before the official commemoration ceremony began.

Attending the ceremony were representatives from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports, including the Secretary of the University's Party Committee - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Viet Bao; the Rector - Dr. Vo Quoc Thang; representatives of the University's leadership from various periods; former faculty and staff members who have been closely associated with and made significant contributions to the building, development, and affirmation of the University's position over the past 50 years, along with all current staff, lecturers, coaches, athletes, and students of the University.

Speaking at the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the school's formation and development, Dr. Vo Quoc Thang, Rector of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports, emphasized that 50 years is a journey not only measured in time, but also forged by the intellect, dedication, courage, and belief of countless generations of leaders, teachers, coaches, staff, and students of the school. It is a journey of inheritance and development, of responsibility to the industry, to society, and to the future of Vietnamese sports.
Dr. Vo Quoc Thang stated that, from its early days facing numerous difficulties in terms of facilities, staff, and training programs, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports has continuously strived to improve, gradually affirming its position as one of the key training and scientific research institutions in physical education and sports nationwide, playing a particularly important role in the Southern region.

Over the past 50 years, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports has trained tens of thousands of administrators, lecturers, coaches, and athletes; many generations of alumni now hold important positions in the industry's management system and in localities, making positive contributions to the mass sports movement, high-performance sports, and the sustainable development of Vietnam's physical education and sports sector.
Dr. Vo Quoc Thang affirmed that the core value that makes up the tradition and brand of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports is its people – the spirit of solidarity, responsibility, dedication, and aspiration to contribute, nurtured and inherited through many generations. This is a solid foundation for the University to continue innovating and developing in the context of increasingly demanding requirements for improving the quality of human resources, linking training with practice, and meeting the development needs of society.

Minister Nguyen Van Hung emphasized that, in line with President Ho Chi Minh's ideology on the role of health in national prosperity, the Party and State have consistently paid attention to and invested in the development of physical education and sports over the years. The movement "All people practice physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh" continues to be widely implemented; high-performance sports have made significant progress, gradually raising the position of Vietnamese sports in regional, continental, and international arenas.
In that overall achievement, Minister Nguyen Van Hung affirmed that the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports has made important, sustained, and profound contributions, especially in the training of teachers, coaches, and sports management staff; and is also a cradle for discovering and nurturing many generations of outstanding athletes, bringing glory to national sports.

From the early days when there were many difficulties in terms of facilities and personnel, the School has gradually affirmed its position as a key training and scientific research institution in physical education and sports, recognized by the Party, State, Government, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism with many prestigious awards.

In the context of the country entering a new stage of development, the need to improve the quality of human resources, develop sports for all, high-performance sports, professional sports, and the sports industry is increasingly posing new demands. The Minister suggested that the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports continue to uphold its 50-year tradition of development; maintain and enhance its position in the higher education system, and build its appeal through its brand, training quality, and scientific research results.
The Minister emphasized that the school needs to unify its understanding, maintain its tradition of solidarity, and ensure internal stability throughout the years as a foundation for development. Thoroughly study and understand the content of Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the development of Vietnamese culture, Conclusion No. 70-KL/TW on the development of physical education and sports in the new period, the amended Education Law, and newly issued Government Decrees to fundamentally and comprehensively change the thinking on modern governance and management, especially university autonomy linked to the practical realities of the institution.
Developing a new development strategy based on clearly defining its position within the higher education system; shifting from a mindset of training what the university has to offer to training what society needs, meeting the requirements for human resource development for the nation.
At the same time, the University needs to focus on developing scientific research in physical education and sports, applying science and technology, especially in training science, sports biomedical science, sports psychology, sports management and economics; striving to become a leading research center in physical education and sports science, and providing advice on industry development. It should strengthen domestic and international cooperation, expand training and research partnerships, and academic exchanges, making practical contributions to the development of physical education and sports and improving public health in the new era.
Representatives of the school presented a commemorative gift as a token of the school's most sincere gratitude to the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Van Hung.
At the ceremony, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports and its individuals were also honored to receive certificates of commendation from the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, recognizing their practical contributions to the training of high-quality human resources in the field of physical education and sports for Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Tran The Thuan, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, presented Certificates of Commendation from the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to the collective and four individuals of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports.
On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor presented the Federation's traditional flag to the Trade Union of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports.
Also on the morning of January 17th, at the Thang Loi Auditorium, Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports held the opening ceremony of an exhibition themed "Fifty Years of Pride - Creating Value - Reaching for the Future". Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung attended and cut the ribbon to inaugurate the exhibition.
