According to China Daily, the incident was exposed when netizens discovered that the list of students receiving support published by the school matched a series of names appearing on the search engine Baidu. The incident immediately raised questions about the transparency in the allocation of charity funds.

In the official announcement, the school admitted that the mistake stemmed from negligence and said it would handle it strictly according to internal regulations.

The above project has a total budget of 450,000 yuan (equivalent to nearly 1.7 billion VND), implemented from June 2022 to June 2023, to support children whose parents work far away at two primary schools in mountainous areas in Thuan An district.

Activities include purchasing library bookshelves, building learning materials, providing learning supplies, books, and organizing online and in-person teaching sessions for students.

According to the school, the project had 7 online teaching sessions but the staff in charge did not keep a complete list of actual participants. When the time came for acceptance, they cheated to get the required number of beneficiaries by using popular names on the internet to put on the public list, which led to a wave of criticism.

The school also said the project does not give cash directly to students; all funds are used for supplies and operating costs.

The school pledged to handle the individuals involved, comprehensively review similar programs and tighten supervision to avoid repeating violations.
