Foreign Trade University does not offer direct admission to students who win prizes in science and technology competitions.

Candidates who have won national or international awards in science and technology competitions will only be given priority consideration for admission to the Foreign Trade University, with a maximum of 3 bonus points.

Another school will no longer offer direct admission to top science and engineering students.

This afternoon, February 15th, the Foreign Trade University announced the methods it will use for university admissions in 2026. Accordingly, this year the university will use four admission methods (including direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training).

Notably, under the direct admission method stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training, the school does not consider students who excelled in science and technology competitions. This group is only included in the priority admission method.

The direct admission method of the Foreign Trade University includes the following categories: Labor heroes, armed forces heroes, national emulation fighters; international outstanding students; national outstanding students; students who have won international awards in international art competitions (singing, dancing, music, fine arts); people with severe disabilities; foreigners or Vietnamese people who studied high school abroad (with certain conditions attached); and members of very small ethnic minorities (the quota for this category shall not exceed 1% of the total university enrollment quota for 2026).

Therefore, the list of groups eligible for direct admission this year at the Foreign Trade University does not include students who have won national or international awards in science and technology competitions. Previously, the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, also announced that it would not directly admit this group of candidates starting from the 2026 university entrance exam.

However, this group is included by the Foreign Trade University in the list of priority candidates for admission, receiving bonus points ranging from 0.5 to 3. First prize in a national competition (or participation in an international competition) earns 3 points; second prize earns 2 points; third prize earns 1.5 points; honorable mention earns 1 point; and selection to the national competition team earns 0.5 points.

The minimum score for admission based on academic transcripts is 24 points from the exam.

The second method uses academic results, targeting two groups: students from specialized programs and students who, although not from specialized programs, have won awards in provincial-level academic competitions.

The third method is using the results of the 2026 high school graduation exam. However, to be eligible for admission, candidates must meet the general admission requirements: academic and conduct results for 6 semesters of high school must be at least "good" (students studying the old high school program must have an average academic score of 7 or higher for 6 semesters); and meet the minimum score set by the school.

Currently, the school plans to set the minimum admission score at 24 points or higher for the total score of the three subjects in the 2026 high school graduation exam according to the school's admission combination. or the same level with the total score of 2 subjects in the 2026 high school graduation exam combined with the converted score of a foreign language certificate). However, the school may adjust this minimum score based on the distribution of scores in the 2026 high school graduation exam.

The fourth method involves using competency assessment certificates, both domestic and international, to evaluate thinking skills.

This year, the Foreign Trade University plans to recruit 4,550 students for its regular undergraduate programs, including its main campus in Hanoi, its Ho Chi Minh City campus (Campus II), and its Quang Ninh campus. The university's admission process follows the general regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. The university will use two subject combinations: Block A (A00, A01, D07) and Block D (D01, D03, D04, D06).

Regarding the converted admission scores between different admission methods and target groups, the university will announce the conversion table after the results of the 2026 high school graduation exam are available.

The school will use two supplementary criteria in sequence (when the cutoff score has more available slots than the remaining slots): mathematics, and the order of the candidate's registered preferences.
