Focus on teaching culture in parallel with vocational training

People with disabilities in Vietnam are increasingly receiving attention, care, and assistance in many aspects. However, to help people with disabilities confidently integrate, proactively rise up in life, and create jobs for special labor groups, the school pays great attention.

In the 2022-2023 school year, the school has accepted 200 disabled students on the payroll and 35 community intervention auditors to study at the school. With ages ranging from 6 to 18 years old, they are divided into 16 cultural classes according to the Primary School specialeducation program, 05 individual intervention classes and 01 toy library class. Because the ages of the children in each class are not the same, the level of awareness is different, so teachers must understand the psychology of each child to have appropriate teaching methods, combined with visual aids and teaching aids to help them understand the lesson easily.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan - Principal of the school, in the past time, with the investment and attention of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Hung Yen and the support of organizations and individuals, Khoai Chau Rehabilitation and Vocational Training School for the Disabled has gradually upgraded its facilities and landscape to be more spacious and clean. The students are all slow to remember and forget, many of them cannot control their behavior. However, with enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility, the teachers and staff have tried to learn from experience, consulted with the school leaders and professional departments to have a suitable teaching program.

Along with teaching culture, teaching vocational skills to children is a very important and also very difficult task. From the age of 13, children are taught some trades such as: sewing, embroidery, mechanics, information technology, silk flower making... with the enthusiasm and sense of responsibility of teachers. Although the budget for vocational training is very limited and equipment is lacking, the school has tried to teach the children to achieve good results. Many children have grown up and developed the trades they have learned with an income of 5,000,000 VND to 7,000,000 VND/month. Some children have built happy families, contributing to reducing difficulties for their families and society.

It is known that the care and nurturing work faces many difficulties due to the large workload and the care and nurturing of disabled children is also more difficult. To overcome the difficulties and challenges, the School has developed and issued a plan to implement the annual targets and tasks assigned by the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Hung Yen province.

Thereby, the specialized departments have solutions suitable to the specific situation of each department, office... Regularly check and motivate officials and employees to unite and strive to complete their tasks. The results have ensured that 100% of children are received, managed and cared for by the School according to the correct procedures and regulations. Children are classified based on disability, age, gender and cognitive ability to be arranged and assigned to appropriate departments.

In addition, the school organizes monitoring and initial health check-ups to promptly detect and treat diseases for children. All children here have health insurance, and medical examination and treatment are always guaranteed.

According to statistics from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Hung Yen province, there are currently over 24,000 people with disabilities, including over 18,500 people with extremely severe disabilities and people with severe disabilities, the rest are people with mild disabilities. In recent years, the Provincial People's Committee has directed functional branches, districts, towns and cities to focus on directing and guiding communes, wards and towns to establish Councils to determine the level of disability, Councils to review social allowances; organize consultations and guide people with disabilities and their families to prepare documents according to regulations.

The school focuses on caring for the lives of disabled students. Along with the care and attention of the Party committees, authorities, and people of all walks of life, the spirit of mutual love and support, both materially and spiritually, has been promoted to help people with disabilities stabilize their lives, eliminate their inferiority complex, rise up to integrate into the community, reduce the burden on their families and society... From that care and attention and their own efforts, many people with disabilities have risen up to integrate into life. With the expected results and achievements, the school will continue to carry out and complete its tasks well. Ensure that social protection beneficiaries are received, managed, provided with health care, educated, and resolved to reintegrate into the community in accordance with regulations.

To fulfill its duties well, in the coming time, Khoai Chau Rehabilitation and Vocational Training School for the Disabled will continue to strengthen coordination with departments, branches and organizations to organize vocational training for the disabled who are still able to work; promote awareness raising for the community about activities to support the disabled; actively mobilize organizations, individuals, philanthropists and the community to actively participate in building the association fund, contributing to improving the lives of the disadvantaged, helping them to be more confident in life.
