In the wave of digital transformation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, STEM education , especially Robotics, is becoming an essential path for Vietnamese students to access global knowledge. And in the remote mountainous border region, Cao Bang Specialized High School has written a miraculous story by participating in and winning awards at the world's largest robotics competitions for three consecutive years.

From idea to journey to conquer the world.

The STEM Robotics Club of Cao Bang Specialized High School was established in the 2020-2021 school year with the aim of helping students "learn by doing," fostering creative thinking and the ability to solve practical problems.

From those initial robot assembly lessons, the students' passion for technology grew stronger, and in just two years, the name "Team 11 Cao Bang" appeared on the world robotics map.

Mr. Ha Tien Sy, Principal of Cao Bang Specialized High School, presents awards to students with outstanding achievements.

In the 2022-2023 school year, the team participated in the VEX IQ Robotics National Competition for the first time and immediately won three awards: the Social Star Award, the People's Choice Award, and the Create Award, thereby securing a spot in the VEX Robotics World Championship 2023 in the United States - the largest competition on the planet, bringing together more than 3,000 teams from 70 countries.

Here, the school's team, named "Team 11," impressed by ranking 183rd in the world in the robot driving and automated programming skills category; and 30th out of 70 teams in the group stage in the robot control category.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, that journey continued with the school constantly exploring, researching, and practicing in the new field of VEX V5 Robotics to participate in the National Championship. At the 2024 VEX Robotics National Championship, "Team 11" won three prestigious awards: Excellence Award, Fulbright Scholarship, and Teamwork Champion.

Six students representing Cao Bang province brought their self-designed robot model to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship 2024 in the US, achieving an outstanding ranking of 49th out of 820 teams, behind only teams from the US, Canada, China, and Germany, and ahead of 768 teams from 31 countries.

2025 - A historic "hat-trick" for Cao Bang students.

The 2024-2025 school year marks a brilliant turning point. In less than six months, the Robotics team of Cao Bang Specialized High School consecutively won three international awards: the Sportsmanship Award at the 2025 VEX Asian Open Robotics Championship (China), recognizing their fair play spirit and exemplary sportsmanship; the First Prize in Student Leadership in Advancing STEM Advocacy organized by VEX World (USA), honoring outstanding initiatives in promoting STEM education; and the Judges' Award at the 2025 VEX World Robotics Championship in Dallas, Texas (USA), a special award from the judging panel for the team demonstrating outstanding qualities, spirit, and effort among more than 2,400 teams from 60 countries.

Three consecutive awards, a historic "hat-trick," have elevated Cao Bang Specialized High School's reputation to that of leading schools worldwide in the field of Robotics.

Vision to action

Behind these medals lies a well-structured strategy for developing STEM education and robotics training that Cao Bang Specialized High School has persistently implemented over the past five years.

According to Mr. Ha Tien Sy, Principal of Cao Bang Specialized High School, the school considers STEM not just a trend, but a long-term direction in educational reform.

"We don't train students to compete in exams, but to foster creativity and problem-solving skills. Robots are just a tool; the goal is to cultivate scientific thinking, collaborative abilities, and the capacity for integration," Mr. Ha Tien Sy emphasized.

To realize that goal, the school is implementing a comprehensive set of solutions, including: building a holistic STEM learning environment; training a core team of teachers; encouraging students to conduct research and gain practical experience; and fostering international cooperation and integration.

The school has designed STEM - Robotics rooms with various equipment for students to research and experiment; interdisciplinary integrated lessons between Mathematics, Physics, Informatics, and Technology are regularly incorporated into the curriculum; and practical, experimental, and STEM Robotics clubs have been established and operate effectively, helping students learn through real-world experiences and develop their creative abilities.

Affirming Cao Bang's position in STEM Robotics

During working sessions, particularly at the International Conference on Promoting STEM Education on Robotics in Laos, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Thu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Cao Bang province, highly appreciated the results of STEM Robotics education in the province, with Cao Bang Specialized High School as the core institution.

"For three consecutive years, students from Cao Bang Specialized High School have participated in international robotics competitions, winning many prestigious awards and contributing to putting the province on the world map in STEM Robotics."

"The achievements of 'Team 11' are not only a source of pride for Cao Bang's education sector, but also proof that: wherever you are, with passion, creativity, and aspiration, all dreams can come true," emphasized Nguyen Ngoc Thu, Director of the Cao Bang Provincial Department of Education and Training.

From classrooms in remote border regions, students of Cao Bang Specialized High School have carried Vietnamese aspirations and intellect to the world. The journey of Cao Bang Specialized High School is a vivid testament to the spirit of innovative and integrated education, where every student has the opportunity to become a global citizen in the digital age.
