The novel A Mad Dog Hunts a Tiger, released at the end of October, was criticized by readers for having the main character's storyline too similar to the real-life career of the most famous player in the game League of Legends . Ridibooks, the Korean publisher, has now removed the novel from its website.
Readers have suggested that many details of one of the two main characters overlap with Faker's real career, including his debut at the age of 17, and his status as the only player to have won six titles. At the time the story began, the main character also achieved an unprecedented five-time world championship, similar to Faker.
In particular, fans recognized descriptions such as “always leading the team to victory under all circumstances” coincided with Faker’s nickname “Immortal Demon King”, showing his remarkable ability to turn the situation around. The image “as long as we play with Faker, the team will win” was also said to be inspired by the T1 captain.

In terms of plot, the main character in the novel won two consecutive championships (repeat) 10 years ago. Then he lost in the third final. Then, he had a comeback after a decade and succeeded.
The story parallels Faker's real-life journey. He achieved repeats in 2015 and 2016, and lost in the finals in 2017. Many said that the Demon King was over, but then he won the 2023-2024 championship with T1 and finally achieved a three-peat in October this year.
In response to the criticism, author Lee Eun Gyu apologized, admitting that the lack of verification led to misunderstandings that it was taken from real life. The author agreed that some details such as ID, the unpracticed competition process when written in text and the above achievements unintentionally made the character resemble Faker more than allowed.
Lee explained that the Critic team's three-peat in the story was written in July-August, before the real team achieved the same feat in October. "I was too shallow and criticized for not realizing that the same player achieving a repeat and a three-peat was the only case in the history of eSports," she said.
Currently, when searching for the work's name on Ridibooks, the platform displays a message stating that the work has been suspended at the request of the publisher or copyright owner, and no further information is provided.
The incident has reignited debate about the creative boundaries of fiction, especially when fictional characters appear to mirror real people's lives. This is a sensitive issue when those individuals are globally famous and possess irreplaceable achievements.
