Ukraine's NATO membership would rule out conflict with Russia. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Ukraine's accession to NATO would be the best guarantee for Ukraine's security and would rule out the possibility of resuming conflict with Russia in the future.
“ When the conflict in Ukraine ends, we need to make sure that this is really the end of the conflict ,” Mr. Stoltenberg said.
The NATO Secretary General also expressed that to do this, it is necessary to build the armed forces of the future of Ukraine. “ However, security guarantees are also necessary. Optimum guarantees are the fifth article of the NATO Charter .”
The US says NATO represents Ukraine's future . US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the US believes NATO represents Ukraine's future and will help the country join.
“ We believe NATO is committed to Ukraine’s future. We will work with them every step of the way toward that ,” Kirby said.
He also stressed that Ukraine still has a lot of work to do before applying for NATO membership, including curbing corruption. Kirby added that the decision to join NATO would be made by alliance members, not just the United States.
Europe sets up corruption watchdog in Ukraine . The European Union (EU) officially announced the establishment of a Brussels-based Audit Board to be tasked with “preventing fraud, corruption, conflicts of interest and irregularities” in the bloc’s funding for Ukraine. The body is expected to operate until mid-2028, providing regular reports to the European Commission and tallying any concerns.
In February, EU member states agreed to provide Kiev with up to €50 billion in funding between 2024 and 2027. The money will help finance Ukraine’s modernization and reconstruction, while also helping the Eastern European country maintain uninterrupted public services for its citizens and implement reforms needed to join the EU. The program also comes with a number of conditions, requiring Ukraine to significantly strengthen the rule of law and its democratic institutions.
Corruption has been seen as one of the main problems plaguing Ukraine for years, with the country rocked by a number of high-profile military procurement scandals in recent months.

Russia is wearing down the Ukrainian army . Ukraine's military commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said Russia is trying to increase the intensity and expand the area of fighting to wear down Ukrainian forces and prevent Kiev from moving into an active offensive.
According to Mr. Syrskyi, on the Kupiansk (Kharkiv), Pokrovsk (Donetsk), Kurakhove (Donetsk) and Vremivka (Donetsk) fronts, Russia is actively attacking, trying to penetrate Ukraine's defenses and capture areas with important terrain or settlements that affect Ukraine's resilience.
Mr. Syrskyi also added that the Russian military understands that the gradual flow of Western weapons to Ukraine, including F-16 fighter jets due to arrive this summer, will increasingly create an advantage for Ukraine.
“ The Russian military is now making every effort to increase the intensity and expand the fighting in order to exhaust the Ukrainian forces, disrupt the training of reservists and prevent Ukraine from moving to active offensive actions ,” Syrskyi said.
