From evacuation memories to development cooperation: National Economics University expands ties with localities

The program of the 60th Anniversary of the National Economics University returning to the evacuation site (1965-2025) is not only an opportunity to look back on the meaningful journey that has passed, but also opens up a journey of extensive cooperation, making practical contributions to the sustainable development of localities that have been associated with the school for six decades.

Historical witnesses during the evacuation years of the National Economics University shared at the exchange session "Memories of a time of evacuation".

Recently, in Quang Trung commune ( Bac Ninh ), the National Economics University coordinated with Quang Trung and Nha Nam communes (Bac Ninh) and Kha Son commune (Thai Nguyen) to organize the 60th anniversary of the National Economics University returning to the evacuation site (1965-2025).

Attending the program was comrade Ngo Van Du, former member of the Politburo, former Head of the Central Inspection Commission , a prominent figure who had been evacuated locally.

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Duc Tho, Party Secretary, Chairman of the Council of the National Economics University, reviewed the difficult but meaningful journey of the school during the war years.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Duc Tho emphasized: 60 years ago, when the country entered the fierce years of war, the University of Planning and Economics, now the National Economics University, had to leave the capital to evacuate to the countryside with rich revolutionary traditions. The localities of Phuc Son, Lam Cot, An Duong, Duong Thanh, Tan Duc... now Quang Trung commune, Nha Nam commune and Kha Son commune opened their arms to welcome teachers and students of the National Economics University. Thatched roofs, temporary classrooms, the support of the people and the spirit of "sharing the sweet and the bitter" have become the fulcrum to help the school carry out its training and research tasks, contributing to the nation's resistance war.

"Looking back on that journey, teachers and students of the National Economics University realize even more that: A strong school today has always stood firm in the flames of war, and is imbued with the love between the army and the people, the love between the people, the teachers and students with the locality, which has remained strong for 60 years," Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Duc Tho shared.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Quang Trung Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Xuan Tuyen, emphasized that Phuc Son, Lam Cot, An Duong, Tan Duc, Duong Thanh, which were once called "Evacuation" communes, now Quang Trung, Nha Nam and Kha Son, always remember the years full of affection between the school and the locality. This year's event has a special meaning, marking 60 years of memories and affection.

Leaders of National Economics University presented many meaningful gifts to localities.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Trung commune said that over the years, the two sides have carried out many practical cooperation activities: Training in economic and financial management skills, digital transformation for commune officials; consulting activities on socio-economic development, especially in agricultural restructuring, farm economy, circular economy... Many groups of students and trainees of the National Economics University also chose the locality as a site for field surveys, collecting data for scientific research.

Within the framework of the program, the exchange session "Memories of a time of evacuation" brought emotional moments when historical witnesses, former students and local people recalled stories from more than half a century ago.

On this occasion, the National Economics University signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with three communes: Quang Trung, Nha Nam (Bac Ninh province) and Kha Son (Thai Nguyen province).

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Director of the National Economics University, emphasized: The signing ceremony is not only a professional cooperation activity, but also a continuation of a historical milestone, originating from the difficult but humane years of bombs and bullets. From that foundation, today's generations must cherish the past to together open a new, deeper and more lasting path.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong affirmed that the connection between the National Economics University and the communes that were once evacuation areas has special significance when placed in the new development context of the country, especially after the merger of Bac Ninh and the old Bac Giang provinces, creating open space for development and regional connectivity. The cooperation between localities and leading universities will become an important driving force to promote innovation, develop human resources and improve the quality of local governance.

According to the memorandum of understanding, the parties will implement a comprehensive cooperation program: from training, fostering staff and coordinating scientific research, building development strategies; to promoting community tourism, high-tech agriculture and youth support programs such as student volunteers, startups, and transferring digital economic models.

Along with that, the school and localities will accompany in career counseling, job connections, scholarships and internships for students; at the same time, aiming to build an advanced new rural model, develop green economy, digitally transform the community and strengthen regional linkages according to the orientation of the new Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces, creating a foundation for sustainable local development.
