From sacred memories to aspirations for growth.

That was a time when the Northwest region still bore the scars of war, life was full of hardships, but the joy of welcoming Uncle Ho illuminated the mountains and forests. On the morning of May 6, 1959, at Na San airport, thousands of cadres, soldiers, and people were present from early morning. No one had made an appointment beforehand; everyone shared a sacred emotion. When Uncle Ho stepped down, his figure was agile, his attire simple, his smile gentle, his eyes warm. The atmosphere seemed to quiet down. He had come to visit, but it felt like he was returning home.

From Na San, Uncle Ho traveled to Thuan Chau, the center of the Thai-Miao Autonomous Region at that time. In the afternoon, he visited the exhibition of achievements. He stopped in front of each display booth, listening attentively and asking detailed questions. His questions were simple yet profound, showing his concern for the transformation of the land and the lives of the people. On the morning of May 7th, more than 10,000 people from 17 districts gathered. Amidst the sea of people, Uncle Ho's image became a great source of spiritual support. He praised the spirit of unity and fighting of the army and people of Northwest Vietnam. Then, in a simple voice, he instructed: We must all strive together to "eradicate hunger and illiteracy," so that everyone can be well-fed, literate, and live in happiness. His words did not stop at one point in time. They opened up a direction, becoming an ideal of life and action that has lasted for many generations.

After the rally, Uncle Ho continued his journey, visiting the Son La Prison Martyrs' Cemetery and the people of Muong La and Mai Son districts. In each place, he left behind practical and heartfelt advice. On the afternoon of May 7th, he arrived in Yen Chau. The following morning, in Khoong village, the image of Uncle Ho waving to the people to sit down, then taking up his bamboo flute and playing the sounds of the mountains and forests, became a beautiful symbol of the close bond between the leader and the people. There was no longer distance, only warmth spreading. Uncle Ho praised the people for their unity, helping each other in production and literacy; at the same time, he reminded them to protect the forest, maintain hygiene, and improve technology. He emphasized a simple truth: all ethnic groups are brothers and sisters in one family. It is from this understanding that the strength of unity has been built and strengthened over the years.

On May 8th, Uncle Ho visited Moc Chau, where agricultural farms were working day and night. He went to each production team, talking and encouraging them. He also visited military units, personally pinning medals onto the military flags. His solemn yet warm gestures conveyed profound trust. Uncle Ho's journey ended when he returned to Hoa Binh, but the values he left behind continue to spread, guiding the way. These are the beliefs, the motivations, the enduring light in the hearts of every Son La citizen. The feelings of the people of Son La for Uncle Ho are those of deep respect and gratitude. The people remember every gesture, every word, every glance. More importantly, they cherish his advice, considering it a promise to themselves.

Over time, Son La has undergone significant changes. The places President Ho Chi Minh visited have now become "red addresses," reminding us of a proud era. In 2025, despite numerous difficulties and challenges, the province still achieved comprehensive results. The economy experienced stable growth; GRDP reached nearly 39 trillion VND, an increase of 8.03%; budget revenue exceeded 5,600 billion VND. Agriculture transformed towards modernization, with over 85,000 hectares of fruit trees and a production exceeding 510,000 tons. Industry and infrastructure continued to receive investment; the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway was started, opening up new development opportunities. Tourism welcomed over 5.3 million visitors, making Son La a bright spot on the tourism map. Culture and society saw many positive changes: the poverty rate decreased to 7.89%; thousands of houses for poor households were newly built; and education achieved many outstanding results. National defense and security have been maintained; administrative reform and digital transformation have made significant progress; and foreign relations have expanded, especially with provinces in neighboring Laos. These figures are not simply achievements; they are the result of a persistent process of realizing Uncle Ho's teachings through concrete actions, practical programs, and tireless efforts.

Entering 2026, Son La faces new development demands. The province has clearly defined its direction: Innovation and creativity; green and sustainable economic development; accelerating digital transformation; improving the quality of human resources; developing high-tech agriculture; and effectively exploiting tourism potential. At the same time, it will continue to build a streamlined, effective, and efficient political system. The core of all directions remains people. Caring for the people's lives and maintaining national unity are the most practical ways to continue following President Ho Chi Minh's teachings from the past.

Remembering the day Uncle Ho visited Son La is remembering our responsibility today. The responsibility to preserve the values that were entrusted to us. The responsibility to turn his teachings into reality. In the journey ahead, as Son La and the country develop, Uncle Ho's footsteps from years ago remain, silently yet persistently guiding each step so that this land develops in the right direction: towards people, towards happiness, towards the future.
