| President Ho Chi Minh called for patriotic emulation in 1948. |
Competition is patriotism, patriotism requires competition.
Emulation is not only a slogan for action, but also the most vivid expression of patriotism. Because according to President Ho Chi Minh, "emulation is patriotism, patriotism requires emulation" and a true patriot is someone who knows how to contribute his strength to the common cause, regardless of his position, he is dedicated to the Fatherland. From the battlefield to factories, fields, schools, hospitals... everywhere the spirit of "everyone competes, every family competes" resounds, creating an unparalleled strength to help the nation overcome many challenges to reach independence, freedom, prosperity and happiness.
Right from the first challenging years of the revolution, the spirit of patriotic emulation through movements such as: "Golden Week", "Popular Education", "Rice Jar for Hunger Relief", "All for the Front, All for Victory"... brought about positive results, contributing significantly to the goal of eliminating hunger, illiteracy, and foreign invaders, contributing to the victory of the nation in the resistance war against French colonialism. During the resistance war against the US to save the country, emulation continued to arouse patriotism, strengthen discipline, belief and fighting strength of the entire people, mobilize all classes of people to actively fight, work and produce, contributing to the great victory of the Spring of 1975, completely liberating the South and unifying the country.
General Secretary To Lam once emphasized: “Emulation is patriotism. Patriotism must be demonstrated by concrete results and concrete responsibilities”. Thanks to emulation, each collective has a common measurable goal, each individual has a clear task and does it “thoroughly”; discipline becomes strength, initiative becomes a resource. Emulation, therefore, is a “school” for training personality and mettle, where each completed target is a step towards maturity. Emulation is only meaningful when it is “real - good - beautiful - useful”, so it needs to be substantial, the criteria must be clear, correct, accurate and easy to compare.
After all, emulation is only meaningful when it makes people better, organizations stronger, and work smoother - thereby realizing patriotism through responsibility and concrete results. Patriotic emulation is not only an urge from the heart, but also a way to realize patriotism in every job, every day of life. Each emulation movement, when properly aroused, will make people better, organizations stronger, and the country more prosperous - that is the spirit of patriotic emulation in the new era, where the aspiration for development is ignited from every concrete action.

Banking industry takes the lead in responding to and spreading emulation movements
In a letter to the Conference of Financial Cadres, dated February 20, 1952, President Ho Chi Minh advised, “Economic and financial cadres are in charge of a lot of money, but are not yet fully proficient in managing that money. Therefore, we need to strive to learn how to manage the national assets that our sector is in charge of. At the same time, we must cultivate revolutionary ethics: impartiality, diligence, thrift, integrity, and uprightness. Wholeheartedly serve the Fatherland, serve the people, serve the resistance... Our soldiers continuously defeat the enemy on the front line. I hope that: You, economic and financial soldiers in the rear, will also strive to compete to correct shortcomings, develop strengths, overcome all difficulties, and make our economic and financial front as victorious as the military front.” In a letter to the National Conference of Banking Officials in 1965, Uncle Ho wrote, “Money management is a very important task in the process of building socialism. Banking officials are responsible for keeping money for the State and the people, and must learn how to manage money well, not to waste or lose it. Every penny of capital spent must ensure an increase in social wealth, must circulate quickly, and not be stagnant.” President Ho Chi Minh's simple but profound advice is a torch that lights the way for the emulation movements of the banking industry in the journey of national development. With the spirit of “emulation is patriotism”, through concrete, persistent and creative actions, from the arduous years of resistance, banking officials have closely followed the battlefield, circulated capital, and ensured service for the resistance; to the period of innovation, strong transformation with the economic restructuring; and today, proactively taking the lead in digital transformation, green finance, and sustainable development.
The emulation movements in the industry are materialized through a series of initiatives to improve operations, apply digital banking, reform administrative procedures, shorten appraisal and disbursement time, contributing to making capital flow quickly, in the right direction and safely. Each emulation movement becomes a "new wave" that transmits positive energy, arouses creativity and responsibility in each officer and unit, helping the banking system to always maintain safety and be a solid support for the economy, especially in the recovery period after the Covid-19 pandemic.
The movements "The whole country unites, joins hands, and competes to defeat the pandemic"; "The whole country joins hands to build new rural areas"; "For the poor - no one is left behind"; "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide"; "The whole country competes in innovation and digital transformation"; "Digital education for all"... are widely deployed throughout the system, with clear targets and synchronous solutions, aiming for the highest emulation efficiency, while at the same time lighting up the spirit of mutual love and affection throughout the system... Those are the most vivid manifestations of patriotism through emulation in action - emulation through specific, practical and humane actions.
If in the resistance war, emulation was one of the weapons to defeat the enemy, then in peacetime, emulation is the driving force to defeat oneself - to defeat stagnation, conservatism, and lack of creativity. When emulation is organized in a substantial, transparent manner, avoiding ostentation, when each program has clear goals, when "real people, real work" are properly honored... emulation will become a strong cultural flow, building a team of cadres with courage, intelligence and the people's heart.
In the banking industry, competition is not only in large movements but also exists in every small action: the smile when welcoming customers, the dedication when processing documents, the sense of responsibility in service. Movements such as "Bank staff practice ethics, practice their profession, be creative", "Office smile", "Improve customer service quality", "Good advice, good service" ... have contributed to forming the unique identity of bank staff: professional, honest, dedicated, friendly.
In particular, the work of discovering and replicating advanced models has been implemented systematically and effectively. Thousands of shining examples - from credit officers in mountainous areas, electronic payment staff, technology engineers to those working in logistics and service - have been honored and spread like "emulation flowers" in everyday life. That shows that Uncle Ho's teaching: "A living example is worth more than a hundred propaganda speeches" has been engraved and realized by the banking industry in each movement and each specific person. They themselves have created vitality for the two words "emulation", making the movement not stop at words but become practical actions, every day there are "good deeds, good people" to follow.
Entering the 2025-2030 period, the emulation movement of the banking industry takes on a new dimension - broader, deeper and more creative, with the theme "The banking industry competes to innovate, create, and pioneer with the country into an era of strong, civilized, and prosperous development". This is not only a slogan for action, but also a commitment of tens of thousands of banking officials to the Party, the State and the people: always pioneering, courageous, and responsible, for a strong and modern national financial system.
From the call of President Ho Chi Minh in 1948 to the vibrant emulation movement today, it can be seen that the spirit of "emulation is patriotism" still retains its value, is the guiding light. In the banking industry, that light is being lit every day in every policy, every transaction, every project and every example of a dedicated and creative cadre. Patriotism is expressed and affirmed by actions, by concrete results, contributing to the country confidently entering an era of strong and prosperous development.
