According to the Ministry of Finance , based on compiled reports and market monitoring, on February 17th, the first day of the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the supply and demand of goods nationwide remained basically stable; the market did not record any major price fluctuations, and there were no shortages or sudden price increases for essential goods.

On New Year's Day, most traditional markets, supermarkets, and shopping malls close for the Tet holiday. However, some shopping malls and convenience stores in major cities remain open to serve customers during shortened hours.

In some localities, only a small number of small traders opened for business on that day, mainly selling vegetables, fruits, and essential necessities, with negligible customer numbers.

The basic parking fees remained stable compared to normal days; some unauthorized parking areas around temples, pagodas, and festivals saw localized price increases, but these were not widespread.

In Hanoi , overall shopping demand is negligible, with only a few businesses such as supermarkets and shopping malls remaining open to serve the public. Most traditional markets are also deserted, with only a few establishments remaining open for the first day of the year.

It is expected that on the second day of Tet, people will start going to the market to shop, but the demand will not be as high as in the previous days.

According to the Ministry of Finance, in the following days of the Lunar New Year holiday in 2026, the commodity market and prices are expected to remain basically stable. Consumer demand for shopping in the first days of the new year is not expected to increase significantly, as most households have already prepared sufficient goods before Tet.

Prices of essential goods are not expected to fluctuate unusually. Some services catering to the needs of spring travel and early year festivals, such as parking, food services, and offerings, may see slight localized increases in some crowded areas due to labor costs during the Tet holiday; however, the expected increase is not significant, is temporary, and will not affect the overall price level of the market.

To further ensure market stability and effectively manage prices during the Lunar New Year holiday, the Ministry of Finance requests that ministries, sectors, and localities continue to closely monitor the supply and demand and market prices of goods under their management, especially essential goods and services serving consumer needs, spring travel, and early year festivals; promptly identify and handle cases of unreasonable price increases, preventing speculation, hoarding, and localized price fluctuations.
