This was shared by Ms. Hoang Hong Mai, Deputy Head of the National Immunization Program Office at the launching ceremony of the Online Quiz Contest to learn about the Expanded Immunization Program in Vietnam organized by the Central Center for Health Education and Communication in coordination with the Department of Disease Prevention ( Ministry of Health ) and the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology this morning (November 14) in Hanoi.

Vaccination is one of the most effective disease prevention measures, contributing to protecting public health and limiting the risk of spreading dangerous infectious diseases.

In Vietnam, the Expanded Immunization Program was launched in 1981 and officially applied nationwide in 1985. Thanks to the program, many serious infectious diseases such as polio were eradicated (in 2000) and neonatal tetanus was eliminated (in 2005). Currently, the Program provides free 12 vaccines to prevent 11 common infectious diseases for children and pregnant women.

Recently, the Expanded Immunization Program has effectively deployed the Rota vaccine in 41/63 provinces/cities (old), receiving support from many mothers, including "anti-vaccine" mothers who have now returned to proactively take their children for vaccination.

"Therefore, the rate of 5-in-1 vaccination has also increased. Instead of many mothers taking their children to get the 5-in-1 vaccine service, now they take their children to get the 5-in-1 vaccine under the Expanded Immunization Program. By 2026, Rota vaccine will be deployed nationwide, each child will receive 2 free doses of vaccine. We hope that mothers will trust and feel secure in having their children vaccinated according to the program," Ms. Hong Mai shared.

At the launching ceremony, Mr. Vu Manh Cuong, Director of the Central Center for Health Education and Communication, Ministry of Health - Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest, said that the trend of "anti-vaccine", living in harmony with nature, refusing to let their children get vaccinated is currently returning. This will create risks affecting children and not ensuring immunity for the community.

"Raising public awareness about general knowledge about vaccination is very important, because vaccination is one of the most effective disease prevention measures, contributing to protecting public health and minimizing the risk of spreading dangerous infectious diseases," said Mr. Vu Manh Cuong.

According to Mr. Vu Manh Cuong, the online quiz was organized to raise public awareness of the importance of vaccination, while encouraging the community to access official information and actively participate in disease prevention and control. This is a creative and practical communication activity, contributing to spreading the message of safe, timely and complete vaccination.
