Passengers who have purchased sleeper or seat tickets can purchase an additional seat for children (from 6 to under 10 years old); each adult ticket can only be purchased with one additional child seat ticket, which will be arranged to share the same seat with the adult. Officers, soldiers of the armed forces, police on emergency missions, military service, enlistment, and reporters on assignment can also purchase an additional seat.
During the 2026 Lunar New Year transportation period, passengers buying long-distance tickets (10 days or more) with a distance of over 900km will receive a discount of 5% -15%; passengers buying tickets for trains departing from Saigon station on February 15 and traveling 1,000km or more will receive a discount of 3%; passengers buying group tickets of 11 people or more will receive a discount of 2% to 12%; passengers buying round-trip tickets will receive a 5% discount on the return ticket price; students will receive a discount of 10% to 20%.
Passengers wishing to change or return tickets must pay a 30% deduction on the price printed on the train pass for tickets traveling during peak periods and must do so 24 hours or more before the train departure time printed on the ticket for individual tickets, and 48 hours for group tickets.
The railway industry recommends that passengers should go directly to the train station system and ticket agents nationwide to buy tickets, bring identification documents and documents proving eligibility to buy discounted train tickets, and not buy train tickets through "ticket brokers".
