The scholarship "Tiep suc den truong" has come as a miracle in life. Hieu An is now a radiation safety engineer at Xuyen A General Hospital (Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City).
During his work, Hieu An showed that he has good professional qualifications. In his role as a nuclear physicist in charge of radiation safety at the hospital, he is very energetic and not afraid of difficulties.

When An was in 11th grade, tragedy struck her family. While chopping dry wood, An's mother was hit in the eye by a splinter. After many surgeries that cost time and money, she was no longer able to work as before.
The orchard was already small and there was no one to take care of it, so the harvest often failed. The family's income was intermittent, and An's father had to work all kinds of jobs, doing whatever he could find, but still could not make ends meet.
That was also the time when An received the results of being admitted to the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) and Can Tho University. She was happy because her efforts and her family's expectations had paid off, but she was more worried about where she would get the money to pay for her tuition. "Many nights, the whole family would lie in bed, tossing and turning, then staying up to discuss my studies. Many times, my mother cried and said she could not afford for me to continue studying" - An recalled.
Thanks to the commune's Education Promotion Association, Hieu An learned about the Tuoi Tre Newspaper's "Tiep suc den truong" scholarship and applied. For many people, 5 million VND may not be much, but for An's family at that time, that amount of money was huge.
“5 million VND helped me pay for my tuition fee and part of my initial living expenses. The scholarship was like a life buoy, giving me the motivation to confidently decide to go to Saigon to study,” Hieu An said emotionally.
Stay at the temple to study

In An's hometown at that time, most of the children who were old enough to work dropped out of school to work to take care of their immediate lives. But An's father often encouraged his son to study hard because it was the best way to escape poverty and also to change the perception of those around him.
On the crowded bus leaving Vinh Long , Hieu An brought his bicycle, a bag of clothes and more than 2 million VND to Ho Chi Minh City. The first time he stepped out of the countryside, everything was too unfamiliar to the new student.
To ease the burden on his family, An went to find several pagodas in the area near Thu Duc University Village to ask to stay, and fortunately, Buu Quang Pagoda agreed. Every day, if I take the bus to the University of Natural Sciences in the urban area of Ho Chi Minh City National University, it will take about 30 minutes. "Besides going to school and working part-time, I help with the daily work there. Thanks to the love of the pagoda, I was able to get through my university years and study for a master's degree" - An confided.
Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thien Thanh, deputy head of the Physics and Engineering Physics Department of the University of Science (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City), said that Hieu An is an outstanding former student and graduate student in the nuclear physics department. Despite his difficult family situation, he showed a strong will to study and actively participated in activities.
Many years after graduating, An still maintains connections with the department, actively shares, guides careers, motivates and introduces job opportunities to junior students.
“I really appreciate An's efforts. Her initial achievements have helped her take care of her family and are also making useful contributions to society,” Dr. Thanh shared.
Specialist II Le Anh Phuong - Head of the Department of Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine (Xuyen A General Hospital) - said that An participated throughout the process of building facilities, equipment and completing procedures to put the hospital's high-tech cancer treatment area into operation. This was recognized by the hospital's leadership awarding An a certificate of merit for outstanding employees in 2023.
