The water-saving irrigation model is being piloted at the Bac Ha Vegetable and Fruit Research and Production Farm, in order to gain experience before expanding. When applied, this model helps save irrigation water, reducing labor by 70% - 80%. Moreover, the technology of timing and scheduling irrigation according to humidity also promotes the growth and development of crops.
Water-saving irrigation model is being tested.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Duong, Deputy Head of Bac Ha Vegetable and Fruit Research and Production Center shared: "It saves a lot compared to traditional methods, there is no loss of water, with this system, when necessary, we will use it for the stages that only need enough water."
Thanks to the application of water-saving irrigation methods, on average each year Tien Thanh Agricultural and Forestry Seed Company Limited sells 5 - 6 million seedlings with good quality. Water from the tanks will be piped to irrigate each tree evenly, helping to prevent water loss, watering the trees with a moderate amount, so the seedlings always ensure the right humidity for growth.
Ms. Vu Thi Hong, Tien Thanh Agricultural and Forestry Seed Company Limited said: "This spray irrigation is more effective, reducing costs a lot. Previously, we had to water twice, now we only need to water once, within 1 hour."
According to the assessment of the industry experts, applying advanced irrigation methods helps save 60% - 80% of water compared to traditional irrigation methods, increasing 30% to 45% of agricultural production value / ha of cultivated land. Therefore, applying advanced, water-saving irrigation technology is very useful and needs to be invested in and expanded.
The application of irrigation technology needs to be widely invested.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Ngoc, Head of the Provincial Irrigation Department, said: “We encourage units and businesses to invest in and apply advanced and economical irrigation models, so that people can see the effectiveness and learn from them. The unit also conducts research to develop appropriate policies to replicate the models and provide guidance and training for people on economical irrigation technology.”
The province also encourages and supports units, businesses and farmers to access preferential loans to invest and expand the area of high-tech agricultural cultivation. This is an effective way to cope with unusual weather developments, especially the effects of El Nino, heat waves and water shortages for production that are becoming increasingly serious.
