On the morning of May 25, the People's Court of Da Nang City held the first instance trial of the criminal case of defendant Bui Tuan Lam (also known as Peter Lam Bui, born in 1984, residing in Thanh Binh ward, Hai Chau district).
Defendant Bui Tuan Lam was prosecuted by the People's Procuracy of Da Nang City for the crime of "Making, storing, disseminating, propagating information, documents, and items aimed at opposing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" under Points a and b, Clause 1, Article 117 of the Penal Code.

According to the indictment, from April 20, 2019 to September 7, 2022, Bui Tuan Lam composed and posted 19 articles on his personal Facebook account "Peter Lam Bui" and 25 videos and articles on his Youtube account (created, managed, and used by Lam) with content that was untrue, fabricated, distorted, defamed, and slandered the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
At the trial on the morning of May 25, Bui Tuan Lam admitted to the above acts.
Based on the documents in the case file and the results of the questioning and debate at the trial, based on points a and b, Clause 1, Article 117; Article 122; Article 38; Article 43; point s, Clause 1, Article 51; point g, Clause 1, Article 52 of the Penal Code, the panel sentenced defendant Bui Tuan Lam to 5 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "Making, storing, disseminating, propagating information, documents, and items aimed at opposing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam", and placed him under probation for 4 years from the date of completion of the prison sentence.
