Vietnam women's volleyball team unexpectedly eliminated a key player right before SEA Games 33

According to the list updated by the SEA Games 33 homepage, young middle blocker Le Nhu Anh was added to replace senior Nguyen Thi Trinh. This surprised many fans, because Nguyen Trinh had been practicing with her teammates all this time. Meanwhile, Nhu Anh had never participated in the SEA Games.

The last-minute personnel change could affect the tactics of the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team, especially when the team is in the process of completing its squad and going through many international tournaments this year. However, the coaching staff believes that Nhu Anh can integrate quickly thanks to her good blocking ability and stable performance in the domestic tournament.

At the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnamese women's team had set a goal of competing for a gold medal, especially after a convincing performance in the second round of the SEA V.League 2025, winning the championship at home in August. In that match, opposite number Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen shone with 45 points, contributing greatly to the historic victory.

However, the significant change in the force has reduced the expectations of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. Without the service of Bich Tuyen due to personal reasons and injury, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet has lost his main attacking spearhead. The loss of force has forced the sports industry to review the target, adjusting from gold medal to silver medal to reduce pressure and help the players compete more confidently.

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team is still highly appreciated thanks to its balanced lineup with the return of Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, along with experienced players such as Bich Thuy, Nhu Quynh, Le Thanh Thuy, Khanh Dang and Kim Thanh.

In the group stage, Vietnam is in Group B with Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia. This group is considered favorable for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team to aim for the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Group A brings together host Thailand, Philippines and Singapore.
