According to Basketball TV , the confusing decision from the Organizing Committee disrupted the preparation plan of the Vietnamese team before the official competition day. Training too late close to the competition day directly affects the sleep, recovery time and physical preparation of the athletes.
According to the original arrangement, the 3x3 women's team practiced at 9 p.m., while the men's team entered the training ground at 10 p.m. Less than 12 hours later, the men's team had to take the field for their opening match against the strong opponent Philippines at 11:50 a.m. on December 10. About 30 minutes later, the women's team also had to play their first match against Thailand at 12:25 p.m.
Speaking to Basketball TV , the coaching staff said that both teams decided to cancel the evening practice session to prioritize rest. According to the coaching staff, forcing the players to practice getting used to the field at 10 pm when their bodies need to enter the recovery phase is unreasonable and poses a risk of reducing their performance on the day of the match.
Although the reason for the aforementioned late-night practice time is still unclear, the information quickly caused much debate in the domestic basketball community. Some opinions suggested that the Organizing Committee should reconsider to ensure fairness and suitable competition conditions for the teams, especially in the context of the 3x3 competition schedule which is dense and requires high intensity of movement.
Despite the unfavorable situation, the Vietnamese team still showed great determination. Hopefully, the sudden adjustment of the training schedule will not affect the preparation and performance of the players on the opening day.
