The highlight of Thailand's starting lineup is the return of Theerathon Bunmathan. The 35-year-old versatile player returned to the national team after more than a year of absence, since the match against Singapore in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He was trusted to play as a midfielder, alongside veteran Sarach Yooyen.
The appearance of Sarach Yooyen and Bunmathan is the biggest difference that new coach Hudson brings compared to the time of Masatada Ishii because the Japanese coach tends to rejuvenate the team, not putting his trust in veterans.
At least in his debut match, Coach Hudson proved that he was right to put his faith in the veterans. Sarach Yooyen opened the scoring for Thailand in the 15th minute and Theerathon Bunmathan scored the second goal for the home team. In the 47th minute, the 35-year-old midfielder unleashed a dangerous shot from the edge of the box that hit the net. Between these two goals, Singapore had a chance to equalize in the 18th minute.
The score chase between the two teams continued to be exciting. In the 53rd minute, Seksan Ratree fired a powerful shot from 25 meters to raise the score to 3-1. Then, Singapore equalized 2-3 thanks to Kweh.

In the remaining time, Thailand and Singapore played solidly. Despite their best efforts, neither team could score any more goals. Former England U19 international Jude Soonsup-Bell even missed a penalty in the 90+7 minute on his debut for the Thai national team.
In the last 6 meetings, Singapore lost all but this is the first time they lost by a narrow margin (the previous 5 times, the minimum difference was 2 goals). This result shows that the debut match of coach Anthony Hudson was not as explosive as fans expected.
However, there are still positive points in the way the Thai team plays. And this is certainly a valuable test for them to be ready to meet Sri Lanka, in the extremely important match in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers nearly a week later.
