It is necessary to convey the concept and urgency of Green Transformation into people's lives and into the business breath of each enterprise, creating a change in awareness to take specific actions .
Dr. Pham Phu Ngoc Trai - Chairman of the Vietnam Packaging Recycling Alliance (PRO Vietnam) made this statement at the Green Development Press Forum on September 23.
Accelerating Net Zero Emissions Reduction
At COP26, Vietnam and 146 countries committed to achieving net zero emissions by mid-century. These 147 countries account for nearly 90% of greenhouse gas emissions and over 90% of global GDP, so the commitment is expected to create a major change in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and responding to global climate change.
This is the first time the world has proposed a strong roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To implement this roadmap, all countries, including Vietnam, must strongly transition to low-emission development; at the same time, it will have a strong impact on all aspects of global politics, diplomacy, economy and trade in the coming time.
However, with the rate of carbon emission reduction recorded in 2020, the world needs to accelerate the rate of carbon emission reduction by more than 5 times to catch up with the Net Zero roadmap by 2050. In particular, in the Asia Pacific region, the emission reduction rate is very low, at only 0.9% compared to the world average of 2.5%.

In implementing the COP26 commitment, Vietnam has also developed specific national strategic goals on climate change, to be implemented in stages, from now until 2050.
Voluntary markets for Carbon Credits in Vietnam are also currently in the process of development. With the characteristic of relatively dense forest density, about 14.7 million hectares (equivalent to 42% coverage, of which natural forests are more than 10 million hectares and planted forests are more than 4 million hectares), in theory, we can earn hundreds of millions of USD annually through the international trading system (ETS). Opportunities from CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects are also valued in millions of Carbon Credits, through projects on solar power, wind power, hydropower (accounting for a large proportion in the clean energy industry). With these renewable energy sources, the market will trade in Renewable Energy Certificates, REC (Renewal Energy Certificate).
The construction of Plastic Credit projects is also taking shape and creating potential revenue sources in the process of plastic collection and recycling. Green economy is no longer an optional transformation, but has become inevitable in the sustainable development process of enterprises. Enterprises have gradually shifted to a circular economic model, consumers have also gradually switched to choosing products with "green brands".
Spread information about green development and sustainable development
According to Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc Trai, to ensure the Prime Minister's commitment to Net Zero 2050, Vietnam still has a lot of work to do. First of all, it is necessary to convey the concepts, as well as the urgency of Green Transformation into people's lives, into the business breath of each enterprise, to raise awareness and turn awareness into concrete actions.
On this journey, the important role of media agencies, press, and businesses is important. With about 150,000 new businesses established every year, and a registered capital of about 1,500 trillion VND, businesses are increasingly demonstrating their pioneering role on the country's Green Transformation path.
Traditional agencies and the press are also increasingly actively participating in raising people's awareness of green development and sustainable development. Recently, in Ho Chi Minh City, the launching ceremony of the Green Development Journalism Club took place. According to the representative of the Vietnam Journalists Association, the launching of the Club and the Executive Board of the Green Development Journalism Club aims to gather domestic and foreign journalists, managers, and experts interested in natural development, ensuring harmony between economic growth and environmental protection to contribute to building a green Vietnam (Net Zero Carbon).

The club is therefore expected to be an address, a space for members and journalists across the country to exchange and share knowledge to improve professional expertise, and to be provided with objective and honest information when writing about the natural resources and environment sector, about green economy and circular economy issues, etc.
