On the evening of November 12, the U22 Vietnam team met the host U22 China in the opening match of the CFA Team China - Panda Cup 2025 International Friendly Tournament held in Chengdu. This tournament helps young Vietnamese players prepare for the 33rd SEA Games.
Acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh arranged the starting lineup with goalkeeper Cao Van Binh. Three central defenders are Ly Duc, Hieu Minh, Nhat Minh. Five midfielders are Van Khang (left), Xuan Bac, Van Truong, Anh Quan (right). Three strikers are Quoc Viet (left), Thanh Nhan, Cong Phuong (right).
In the 17th minute, goalkeeper Cao Van Binh had to fly as far as he could to save U22 Vietnam from a close-range shot by Wang Bo Hao - a midfielder currently playing in the Netherlands for FC Den Bosch.
Immediately after this escape, the U22 Vietnam team continuously had to struggle to defend against the home team's subsequent attacks.
The climax was the escape in the 29th minute thanks to the excellence of goalkeeper Cao Van Binh. He won the face-off with Behram Abduweli - a striker who used to play for the Chinese national team.
Since the beginning of the match, the U22 Vietnam team has not created any dangerous opportunities. Passes from the sidelines were all unsuccessful, when the ball went inaccurately or was blocked by the U22 China defenders.
As in the 35th minute, Anh Quan passed from the right wing into the penalty area but the defender cleared the ball out of bounds before it reached striker Quoc Viet's feet.
In the 44th minute, the U22 Vietnam team had a beautiful combination in front of the penalty area. Thanh Nhan entered the penalty area, but his shot from a narrow angle could not beat goalkeeper Huo Shen Ping.
At the beginning of the second half, U22 Vietnam made 3 changes in a row. But just like the first half, the home players still controlled the game and put pressure on U22 Vietnam's goal.
In the 74th minute, striker Bui Vi Hao was brought on to replace Quoc Viet. After nearly a year out due to injury, Bui Vi Hao has officially returned.
In the 81st minute, U22 Vietnam opened the scoring. Ngoc My passed the U22 China defender on the left wing and crossed the ball inside, the home team defender failed to clear the ball, allowing Minh Phuc to rush in and shoot close to the goal.
In the 84th minute, Vi Hao was pushed back by a Chinese U22 defender and fell in the penalty area. But the referee did not award a penalty to Vietnam U22.
The match was given 5 minutes of extra time. But the home team could not play better against the U22 Vietnam defense to score an equalizer, and had to accept defeat.
In the previous match, U22 Korea won U22 Uzbekistan 2-0. On November 15, U22 Vietnam will meet U22 Uzbekistan.
