The Vietnamese team left Thailand this afternoon (January 6), and is expected to arrive in Hanoi at 2:30 p.m. An ambulance went to the plane to pick up Nguyen Xuan Son and take him to the hospital to prepare for surgery to treat his injury. The striker, born in 1997, broke his leg and will be out of action for about 5-8 months.
Midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan is the only member of the Vietnamese national team who will not return home today. His club Thanh Hoa, representing Vietnam in the Southeast Asian Championship, will play an away match against Pathum United on January 8. Therefore, midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan will stay in Thailand to wait for his club to come to play instead of returning home with the national team.

Meanwhile, the remaining members of the Vietnamese team will bring the trophy from Noi Bai airport to the Government office . Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will welcome coach Kim Sang-sik and his team. Previously, last night (January 5), the Prime Minister sent a letter of praise and congratulations to the Vietnamese team for winning the 2024 AFF Cup, and also asked about striker Nguyen Xuan Son.
The Prime Minister expressed his pride and thanked the team for their extraordinary efforts, resilient, courageous, united and relentless performance. The Prime Minister affirmed that this victory is not only the pride of Vietnamese sports but also a source of inspiration for the entire nation, demonstrating the aspiration to rise and conquer new heights.
The Vietnamese team was picked up from the airport by a double-decker bus, similar to when the U23 Vietnam team finished second in the 2018 AFC U23 Championship. This is the third time the Vietnamese team has won the AFF Cup, but the first time they have won the trophy away from home.
The Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) are not expected to hold a long celebration. The players must return to serve their clubs soon. Vietnamese football will return from January 9 with matches in the National Cup.
