The family of Ms. Ngo Thi Minh, Cong Hoa ward, Quang Yen town, is harvesting Korean cabbage.
Cong Hoa Ward is one of the specialized vegetable-growing areas in the town, with 285 hectares. Currently, the ward's cultivated land is covered with various vegetables such as Korean cabbage, kohlrabi, amaranth, and mustard greens. Ms. Ngo Thi Minh (Cong Hoa Ward, Quang Yen Town) said: "This year, the weather is more favorable, so I only grow vegetables instead of rice. I'm currently harvesting 2 sao (approximately 2000 square meters) of Korean cabbage. This variety is delicious and very popular in the market, so I've also planted it to diversify the products of the Cong Hoa vegetable growing area."
Currently, Quang Yen town has established specialized vegetable growing areas such as Cong Hoa, Tien An, and Hiep Hoa. Vegetables have a fast land rotation rate of 30-45 days per crop, depending on the type of vegetable. The town also focuses on directing the production of safe vegetables in Tien An commune and Cong Hoa ward to meet quality standards, maintain and develop the Quang Yen safe vegetable brand; and coordinates and links with businesses in the area to contract for consumption. For the remaining vegetable growing areas, the town directs the production into concentrated vegetable growing zones, applying synchronized technical measures for care and pest management in the fields, ensuring food safety and hygiene.
The town, in coordination with the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, regularly conducts surveys of pests and diseases on crops and monitors quarantined pests on imported crop varieties such as garlic and tomatoes; continues to monitor safe vegetable growing areas and the use of pesticides, and collects pesticide packaging waste in safe vegetable growing areas...
The vegetable growing areas of Quang Yen town are subject to food safety controls.
Mr. Do Hong Hung, Director of the Agricultural Technical Service Center of Quang Yen Town, said: Vegetable growing areas have a high land rotation rate and bring certain economic efficiency to farmers per hectare of cultivated land. One hectare of vegetable cultivation currently yields an income of approximately 200-300 million VND. Currently, winter vegetables in Quang Yen Town are in the final stages of harvesting, and farmers are beginning to harvest the spring-summer crop.
Vegetable crops in Quang Yen town have a fast land rotation rate, ranging from 30 to 45 days per crop depending on the type of vegetable.
According to the plan, the area for vegetable cultivation in Quang Yen town will reach 1,462 hectares by 2025. To date, farmers have already planted 1,500 hectares. This not only provides an abundant food source to meet the consumption needs of the province but also creates jobs and maintains stable income for farmers.
