Thairath revealed that the 7 players that coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul returned to their home clubs include Thanakrit Chotmuangpak (Buriram United), Chanon Thamma, Chanapach Buaphan (BG Pathum United), Sittha Boonlha (Port FC), Thanawut Phochai (Nong Bua Pitchaya FC) and Thawatchai Inprakhon (Singha Chiang Rai United). Notably, these are all outstanding players, expected by fans of the Golden Temple country to help U.23 Thailand win the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games this time.
Initially, coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul planned to send only 3 players, including Ikhlas Sanhan (Prachuap), Kakana Khamyok (Muangthong United) and Sittha Boonlha (Port), back to their home clubs. However, the decision of the captain of U.23 Thailand changed when they had an easy 6-1 victory over U.23 East Timor on the opening day (December 3), thereby gaining many advantages in winning tickets to the semi-finals of the 33rd SEA Games.

U.23 Thailand's most recent training session with only 14 players
Thairath explained that the reason why coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul had to return 7 Thai U23 players to their home clubs was because the Thai League domestic football tournament will still take place this weekend. Because the 33rd SEA Games is not included in the FIFA Days schedule, the Thai League clubs have the right to "request" the players who are currently on their roster. However, the fact that 7 players left the team at this time also caused the Thai U.23 team to face many difficulties. Thairath page expressed: "This difficult situation has left the Thai U.23 team with only 14 players practicing today (December 6). More importantly, among these, there are two players who have not yet played in the first match: Waris Chuthong (BG Pathum United) and Seksan (Rayong FC)".
“With a limited number of players, coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul has had many difficulties in arranging exercises as well as operating tactics. The competition rules of the 33rd SEA Games also clearly stipulate that teams are not allowed to change the list of players, even if a player is injured. This makes Mr. Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul even more headache because he cannot change or call more players to the Thai U.23 team,” Thairath emphasized.

Meanwhile, according to Main Stand , the President of the Football Association of Thailand, Ms. Nualphan Lamsam (commonly known as Madam Pang) has been informed about the current situation of the Thai U.23 team. On the afternoon of December 6, Madam Pang was also present, encouraging the players and coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul.
In Group A of the 33rd SEA Games men's football, U.23 Thailand is currently leading with 3 points and a goal difference of +5. The East Timor team just surprisingly defeated U.23 Singapore 3-1 on the evening of December 6, thereby rising to 2nd place. In the final match of the group, U.23 Thailand will face U.23 Singapore (December 11).
