U.23 Vietnam is unlikely to appear at the opening ceremony of SEA Games 33 on December 9, why?

On the evening of December 9, the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games will be held at Rajamangala Stadium and the Vietnamese sports delegation will attend, led by Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Department, Head of Delegation Nguyen Hong Minh. Most likely, the U.23 Vietnam team and some other teams currently in Thailand will not appear at the event.

The Vietnamese sports delegation attending the 33rd SEA Games has 1,165 members, including 842 athletes. Some Vietnamese teams have moved to Thailand to compete before the opening day of the Games, such as the baseball team, the Vietnam U.23 team, the badminton team, the women's football team...

On December 7, the delegation may have some other teams go to Thailand (with 3 directions from Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang), a total of 113 members, bringing the total number of teams present in the host country to 16.

The delegation will base on the specific competition schedule of each sport to assign teams to participate in the opening ceremony. Due to competition preparation close to December 9, some teams will have to stay at the hotel and will not appear at the opening ceremony.

Among them, the U.23 Vietnam team may be present. Because at 4pm on December 11, the U.23 Vietnam team played a particularly important match in Group B. The players must ensure the best health condition, because after the opening ceremony (the event lasted from 7pm to 9pm on December 11), the team only has 1 day left to prepare for this match. Therefore, the delegation leaders may consider the direction of not letting the U.23 Vietnam team attend the opening ceremony.

U.23 Vietnam has not brought peace of mind

In other related developments, as reported by Thanh Nien , on the afternoon of December 7, Head of the delegation Nguyen Hong Minh visited the U.23 Vietnam team for training. He praised the fighting spirit of the U.23 Vietnam team, and said that the opening victory over U.23 Laos only created a positive signal but could not bring peace of mind. He emphasized that the U.23 Vietnam team needs to continue to maintain discipline, respect the opponent as well as preserve the good image of Vietnamese sports in the regional arena.

Sports leaders expressed their belief in the solidarity, fair-play spirit and determination of the entire team on the journey to conquer the goal at the 33rd SEA Games.

In the latest round, U.23 Malaysia defeated U.23 Laos with a score of 4-1, thereby rising to the top of Group B with a goal difference of +3, temporarily surpassing U.23 Vietnam - the team with a goal difference of +1 after a 2-1 victory over Laos. With two consecutive defeats, U.22 Laos has officially said goodbye to the tournament.

Vietnam U.23 team practice on December 7

According to the format of men's football at the 33rd SEA Games, the top three teams in each group and the second-placed team with the best record will advance to the semi-finals. This makes the competition in Group B more intense than ever.

The advantage in goal difference helps U.23 Malaysia to have the right to decide. In the final match on December 11, Malaysia only needs a draw to secure the top spot in the group and a ticket to the semi-finals. Meanwhile, U.23 Vietnam must win if they want to top the group and take the initiative in terms of opponents in the next round.
