Coach Kim Sang-sik's magic has created an incredibly impressive Vietnam U23 team.
According to Indonesian press reports, coach Kim Sang-sik has led an undefeated Vietnam U23 team, holding a record that few teams in the region, or even on the continent, can match. This is a streak of 15 consecutive wins in official tournaments, with the UAE U23 team becoming the latest victim of Coach Kim's team.

Accordingly, the Vietnam U23 team has won every match since the Southeast Asian U23 Championship in July 2025, totaling 15 games (including the most recent victory against the UAE U23 team in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Asian U23 Championship), scoring 29 goals and conceding only 9. Of these, the Vietnam U23 team kept a clean sheet in 9 matches. This is an incredible achievement for a team in Southeast Asia.
Under the guidance of coach Kim Sang-sik, the Vietnam U23 team has become increasingly versatile, winning the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, securing a gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games, and now advancing to the semi-finals of the U23 Asian Championship currently taking place in Saudi Arabia. This achievement makes Vietnam U23 the number one team in the region and they are pursuing their dream of winning the Asian Championship at the continent's top youth tournament, CNN Indonesia emphasized.

CNN Indonesia also ranked the dramatic victory of the Vietnam U23 team against the UAE U23 team on January 17th, with an incredibly exciting goal-scoring chase, as the top sporting event in the country that day. However, UAE U23 fought back to equalize 2-2 thanks to Al-Menhali's goal in the 68th minute, sending the match into extra time. Pham Minh Phuc scored the decisive goal for Vietnam U23 in the 101st minute, making the score 3-2, after capitalizing on a scramble in the penalty area.
The UAE U23 team tried to find an equalizer in the second half of extra time, but the Vietnam U23 team blocked all routes to goalkeeper Trung Kien's goal. The 3-2 score remained until the end of the match. The Vietnam U23 team continued their incredible unbeaten record. In the semi-finals, they will face either Uzbekistan U23 or China U23 (playing at 6:30 PM on January 17)," CNN Indonesia reported.
