After defeating Myanmar U17 women's team 2-1 yesterday afternoon (May 7th), the Vietnam U17 women's team unexpectedly surpassed Thailand to secure second place in Group A, thus qualifying for the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship. Immediately after the match, the VFF decided to reward the U17 women's team with 500 million VND.
With a 2-1 victory, the Vietnam U17 women's team earned 4 points and ranked above the Thailand U17 team, who also had 4 points but had a worse goal difference (in the other match played at the same time, the Thailand U17 women's team lost to the China U17 women's team 0-6).

Before their final group stage match, the Vietnam U17 women's team had only 1 point, so the whole team was determined to win to secure a place in the quarterfinals. On the other side, the Myanmar U17 women's team also harbored hopes of winning their final match in Group A. Right from the start of the match, the Myanmar U17 women's team launched an attack and continuously pressured goalkeeper Cam My's goal, making it difficult for the Vietnamese defense to cope.
In the 18th minute, from a free kick outside 30 meters, Linh Chi unleashed a powerful shot that went straight into the net, giving the Vietnam U17 women's team a surprising 1-0 lead. The early goal boosted the morale of the young Vietnamese players, while Myanmar pushed forward even more in search of an equalizer.
The young Burmese women's team created numerous attacking opportunities, but the solid defense of the young Vietnamese women's team prevented them from having a chance to trouble goalkeeper Cam My's goal.
In the second half, the Myanmar U17 women's team continued to put pressure on the Vietnamese U17 women's team's goal. In the 55th minute, from a very tricky free kick from nearly 20 meters, Ngoc Anh scored to increase the score to 2-0, much to the surprise of the opposing team.
With nothing left to lose, the Myanmar U17 women's team launched an all-out attack and created numerous opportunities, but their impatience prevented them from scoring. It wasn't until the 66th minute that Thaw Dar Hnin scored to reduce the deficit to 1-2 for Myanmar. This was the final score of the match.
In this group, China, Vietnam, and Thailand all advanced to the quarterfinals. Although the U17 women's team of Thailand finished below Vietnam, they were the third-best performing team and therefore qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC U17 Championship.
