On the afternoon of May 10th, the Vietnam U17 women's team held their final tactical training session in preparation for their quarter-final match against Australia U17 at the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship at 2 PM tomorrow (May 11th) in China.
The winning team will qualify for the 2026 U17 Women's World Cup.
The coaching staff of the Vietnam U17 women's team is focusing on coordination, defensive organization, and tactical deployment to counter an opponent considered to have superior physique and stamina like the Australian U17 women's team.
Speaking before training, midfielder Do Thi Ha Vi said that she and her teammates had prepared thoroughly for the quarter-final match.
"I find the competitors in this tournament to be of higher quality than in previous Southeast Asian tournaments," Ha Vi said.
According to Ha Vi, in preparation for the match against the Australian U17 women's team, the Vietnamese U17 women's team spent a lot of time studying their opponent through tactical training and watching professional video analysis.
"The upcoming match is very important. This is our dream. The whole team will try their best to reach the semi-finals and have a chance to qualify for the World Cup," she said.
Earlier that morning, coach Masahiko Okiyama and his team had a tour and familiarized themselves with the stadium where the quarter-final match will take place at the Suzhou Sports Center.
Commenting on the playing conditions in Suzhou, the 2010-born midfielder said: "The stadium here is very beautiful and high-quality, however, the grass is a bit thick so the whole team needs to adapt a bit more."
The Vietnam U17 women's team reached the quarterfinals of the AFC U17 Women's Championship for the first time in their second appearance. They drew 2-2 with Thailand U17, lost 0-3 to China U17, and won 2-1 against Myanmar U17 to finish second in Group A.
Meanwhile, the Australian U17 women's team also advanced to the quarterfinals as runners-up in Group B after beating India U17 2-0, drawing with Lebanon U17 1-1, and losing to Japan U17 0-5.
