U22 Malaysia will have the service of central defender Ubaidullah Shamsul Fazili in the match against U22 Vietnam on December 11, in the third match of Group B men's football at SEA Games 33.
Ubaidullah Shamsul Fazili, born in 2003, is a mainstay and captain of the U22 Malaysia team in the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers. He is playing for Terengganu Club in the national championship (Malaysia Super League).
For this reason, Ubaidullah could not join the U22 Malaysia team before the 33rd SEA Games and missed the match against U22 Laos on December 6.
However, on December 8, Ubaidullah went to Thailand to join the U22 Malaysia team and had his first training session with his teammates.
"He is a classy player, a captain with great personality and courage and an important factor in the team," said U22 Malaysia player Moses Raj.
Head coach Nafuzi Zain is hopeful that this addition will help U22 Malaysia in the match against U22 Vietnam. Because this is a very difficult tournament for the Malaysian Tigers, where they can only practice together for 11 days, with a total of only 18 players (as of the match against U22 Laos).
Player Haqimi Azim Rosli shared: "The absence of many key players is not a big problem for U22 Malaysia. We - those who are present - will fight to the best of our ability and follow the coaching staff's tactics to play against U22 Vietnam."
In fact, in the current context, U22 Malaysia and U22 Vietnam only need a draw to be sure to advance to the semi-finals of the men's football SEA Games 33. Both teams have 3 points and the remaining groups certainly do not have any team with 4 points.
