China U22 continuously receives bad news before the match against Vietnam U22

At 6:35 p.m. today (November 12), U22 Vietnam entered the opening match of the Panda Cup friendly tournament with host U22 China in Chengdu. Before this match, U22 Vietnam encountered difficulties due to not having much time to prepare. The whole team hurriedly traveled to China right after the end of round 11 of V-League.

Many players such as Pham Ly Duc, Pham Minh Phuc, Nguyen Dinh Bac, Nguyen Van Truong, Le Van Ha and Viktor Le are likely to not play because they just arrived in China yesterday. They did not have time to practice and recover their fitness before the match with U22 China.

However, the situation of the home team is not better. This team lost many key players for different reasons. Accordingly, only 18/30 players named in the list of U22 China were present.

Among them, the three most important players are Liu Chengyu, Kuai Jiwen and Li Xinxiang who are absent due to attending the National Sports Festival. Although they are not yet 20 years old, they have experience playing for the Chinese national team.

Three players Peng Xiao, Wang Yudong and Zhang Aihui withdrew from the list of players participating in the match against U22 Vietnam due to injuries. It is even difficult for them to recover in time to play the remaining two matches against U22 Korea and U22 Uzbekistan.

Coach of U22 Vietnam: "We are not afraid to face China and South Korea"

"The whole team will try their best to compete well and achieve the highest professional efficiency, thereby creating a sprint for the 33rd SEA Games," acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh expressed at a press conference on the afternoon of November 11 before the international football tournament CFA Team China - Panda Cup 2025, taking place in Chengdu, Sichuan province (China).

The 2025 Panda Cup friendly tournament is considered an important step for participating teams towards the 2026 AFC U23 Championship finals taking place in January 2026.

For U22 Vietnam, this is also a quality international competition, helping the coaching staff continue to perfect the squad, test personnel and tactics, and is an important stepping stone before the sprint stage towards SEA Games 33 taking place in December.

Before the opening match against the host team U22 China, coach Dinh Hong Vinh sent his thanks to the Chinese Football Association (CFA) for the thoughtful and respectful reception for the whole team right after arriving in China to participate in the tournament.

In addition to host China, the two guest teams Uzbekistan and South Korea are no strangers to U22 Vietnam as they met each other in an international friendly tournament organized by CFA in March 2025.

“In that tournament, U22 Vietnam drew 1-1 with South Korea, 0-0 with Uzbekistan and 1-1 with China. Those matches really helped our young players mature a lot, contributing to creating a foundation for U22 Vietnam to win the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, and also win all the qualifiers for the 2026 Asian U23 Championship,” Coach Dinh Hong Vinh shared.

Chinese newspaper commented frankly about U22 Vietnam

On November 12, U22 Vietnam will enter the opening match of the Panda Cup friendly tournament in Chengdu (China) against the host team U22 China. Before this match, the Chinese press is paying special attention to U22 Vietnam.

In an analysis of the strength of U22 Vietnam, Sina newspaper commented: “All three opponents, U22 Vietnam, U22 Korea and U22 Uzbekistan, are very strong. In particular, U22 Vietnam attaches great importance to this tournament as it is a place to test their skills before the 33rd SEA Games.

The strength of U22 Vietnam lies in their fighting spirit. Of the 26 players called up to participate in this tournament, 14 have played for the national team. 9 of them participated in the Asian Cup qualifiers in October, including key players such as Quoc Viet and Khuat Van Khang.

Meanwhile, striker Bui Vi Hao has also recovered from injury. That has helped improve the strength of U22 Vietnam compared to when they participated in the friendly tournament in Yancheng (Jiangsu, China) in March. Therefore, if they are not careful, U22 China could lose to coach Dinh Hong Vinh's team in the opening match of the Panda Cup.
