U22 Vietnam does not want to draw with U22 Malaysia

Speaking before the decisive match with U22 Malaysia, midfielder Nguyen Thai Quoc Cuong affirmed that the U22 Vietnam team is determined to win and does not want a draw.

On the afternoon of December 9, the U22 Vietnam team had a training session to prepare for the final match of Group B of the men's football SEA Games 33 against U22 Malaysia, taking place on December 11.

Speaking before the training session, midfielder Nguyen Thai Quoc Cuong shared: "All the U22 Vietnam players are very determined to prepare for the match with U22 Malaysia. Coach Kim as well as the whole team have the common goal of winning."

Talking about his chance to play in the next match, Quoc Cuong said: "Personally, I try to practice and compete as best as I can when I have the chance to play. My goal and expectation for the whole team is to try to win a gold medal."

Nguyen Thai Quoc Cuong is the cousin of famous striker Nguyen Cong Phuong. He shared: "It is also a source of pride for me personally as well as my family. Being selected for the Vietnam U22 team to participate in the 33rd SEA Games is an honor for me personally."

"Mr. Phuong always encourages me, as well as points out my shortcomings and mistakes that I need to improve," he added.

Quoc Cuong also expressed his regret when the Vietnamese women's team lost 0-1 to the Philippines on the evening of December 8. He said: "Yesterday, my whole team and I watched this match. We felt quite sorry for the Vietnamese women's team, when in the last situation I thought there would be a penalty for the team, but the referee did not blow the whistle."

The central midfielder of the U22 Vietnam team also said that he and the whole team watched the match where U22 Philippines beat U22 Indonesia 1-0. "My team and I are not aiming for a draw with U22 Malaysia. We must definitely put our highest determination on winning," he affirmed.

Quoc Cuong said he and his teammates will try their best to score against U22 Malaysia, whether it is a long shot or a close-range shot. He said: "For us, difficulties are just an external factor. When we succeed despite the difficulties, that is what is truly valuable."
