A few days ago, Suara (Indonesia) newspaper said that U23 Vietnam is a model for national football. This newspaper commented: “U23 Vietnam has a tradition in youth tournaments. They have participated in the U23 Asian tournament for the 6th consecutive time. In the 5 previous participations, the team's achievements have been quite stable and impressive.
In the last two tournaments, U23 Vietnam have both made it to the quarter-finals. They have shown stability in their performance and they are growing more and more mature.”

In fact, the comments of Suara newspaper are completely reasonable. Because, the achievements of U23 Vietnam in the U23 Asian tournament are extremely impressive. The team won the runner-up in the tournament in 2018. In the two recent U23 Asian tournaments, we both won the right to enter the quarterfinals.
According to the final rankings announced by the Asian Football Confederation, U23 Vietnam is the team with the 10th best performance in Asia in the tournament and the highest in Southeast Asia. We have gone through 5 U23 Asian tournaments, played 20 matches, won 4, drew 7 and lost 9 matches. Thus, U23 Vietnam has won 19 points.

Of course, this number is very modest compared to U23 Korea (69 points), U23 Japan (61 points), U23 Iraq (60 points) and U23 Uzbekistan (55 points)... but we are still far ahead of U23 Thailand, U23 Indonesia and U23 Malaysia.
Thailand U23 also participated in 5 U23 Asian tournaments like Vietnam U23. They won 3, drew 4, lost 9 matches and only had 13 points. Meanwhile, Indonesia only participated in this tournament once (in 2024) and won 7 points. Meanwhile, Malaysia participated 3 times with a total of 10 matches but only had 4 points.
