The Vietnam U23 team wore red uniforms in their match against the China U23 team.

According to information from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the Vietnam U23 team will wear red jerseys in the semi-final match against China U23 at the 2026 AFC U23 Championship at 10:30 PM tonight (January 20th, Vietnam time).

Wearing the red jersey is considered a lucky omen for the Vietnam U23 team, as in this year's tournament, the "Golden Star Warriors" have won all four matches played, including three matches in red against U23 Jordan, U23 Kyrgyzstan, and U23 UAE, and one match in white against U23 Saudi Arabia.

The fact that the Vietnam U23 team chose red jerseys means the China U23 team is forced to change their uniform, as they cannot use orange (their main color) because it could easily cause confusion on the field.

Notably, throughout their journey to the semi-finals, the Chinese U23 team, under coach Antonio Puche, consistently wore their familiar orange kit and maintained remarkable consistency. In all four matches against Iraq, Australia, Thailand, and Uzbekistan, China kept a clean sheet, not conceding a single goal.

Speaking ahead of the semi-final match, goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien said that the Vietnamese team is fully focused and ready to implement coach Kim Sang Sik's plan.

"The whole team is in very good spirits and determined to reach the final. I will play to the best of my ability and with high concentration. Every match is different, but maintaining focus is not a problem for us," said the goalkeeper currently playing for HA Gia Lai Club.

The goalkeeper, born in 2003, also affirmed that he is very much looking forward to facing Li Hao, the Chinese goalkeeper who made a strong impression with his outstanding performance at the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.

"I think it's a remarkable achievement for a goalkeeper to play all four matches and keep a clean sheet. I believe he is a very good and well-rounded goalkeeper, possessing all the necessary skills. However, we will give 100% effort to win for the people of Vietnam," goalkeeper Trung Kien affirmed.
