The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said that on the evening of July 18 (local time) in Jakarta (Indonesia), the Vietnam U23 team completed preparations for the opening match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship with a final training session to prepare for the match against Laos U23.

The training session saw the timely return of young midfielder Le Van Thuan – the player who was just called up to replace Thanh Nhan who unfortunately suffered an injury.

With his continuous participation in recent training sessions of U23 Vietnam, Van Thuan quickly integrated into the team's movement and spirit, ready for the opening match if given the opportunity.

To ensure the physical strength of his players as well as minimize the risk of unnecessary injuries, head coach Kim Sang-sik proactively reduced the amount of exercise during training sessions.

The Korean coach also completed personnel and tactics plans, and made a final review of the squad for the opening match against U23 Laos.

Speaking to the media before the training session, goalkeeper Nguyen Trung Kien said: “My team and I are very focused, looking forward to tomorrow’s match with the highest determination and best spirit. We consider all opponents the same, and when we step onto the field, we will play our best to achieve the best results.”

Goalkeeper Nguyen Trung Kien, born in 2003, currently plays for Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club. He is one of the most promising young goalkeepers in Vietnamese football with a height of 1m91, the ability to catch high balls and play with his feet steadily.

Trung Kien has made remarkable progress in his career, having been promoted to the HAGL first team, called up to the Vietnam national team as well as the Vietnam U23 team. Trung Kien is also one of the 5 remaining players in the current squad who participated in the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

The opening match of the U23 Vietnam team in Group B against U23 Laos will take place at 5:00 p.m. on July 19 at Patriot Stadium, Bekasi (Indonesia).

The match will be broadcast live on FPT Play.
