On the afternoon of November 26, Can Tho City People's Committee held a signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with 6 universities in the locality and neighboring areas.
Participating units include: Can Tho University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Nam Can Tho University, Tay Do University and Vo Truong Toan University.
The cooperation focuses on training and human resource development; scientific research, innovation and digital transformation; supporting economic development in various fields; agriculture , rural areas, environmental resources, culture, tourism; international connectivity and integration; as well as community development.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen emphasized that this event continues and expands the previous effective cooperation between universities and the People's Committees of Soc Trang, Hau Giang provinces and Can Tho city.
According to Mr. Tuyen, the resolution of the Can Tho City Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term has determined the goal of building Can Tho into a growth pole of the country; a regional center for trade, tourism, logistics, industry, high-tech agriculture, education - training, specialized healthcare, science - technology and innovation; aiming to become an ecological, civilized, modern and livable city by 2045.
To realize that goal, knowledge and high-quality human resources are the core factors. Signing a memorandum of understanding with universities clearly demonstrates the city's commitment to considering universities as important strategic partners, accompanying the city in the development process.
The Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the assigned departments, branches and sectors to coordinate with schools to urgently develop action plans and specific coordination programs to effectively implement the signed contents.
At the same time, proactively place orders and propose "practical problems" related to urban planning, resource management, administrative reform, digital transformation, human resource development, etc. so that scientists and students have the opportunity to participate in research and propose solutions.
Mr. Tuyen also suggested that universities continue to promote scientific potential, propose initiatives and research programs in line with the city's development orientation, and pay special attention to innovating training programs to meet the demand for high-quality human resources.
"The City People's Committee is committed to creating a flexible and effective coordination mechanism, accompanying schools so that today's cooperation contents will soon become specific results, making practical contributions to people and businesses," he said.
