(Baoquangngai.vn) - On the morning of September 8, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Hoang Tuan chaired a working session with the delegation of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Global Environment Facility Small Projects Grant Program (GEF SGP). Attending the meeting were leaders of departments, branches, sectors, associations of the province, leaders of Binh Son district and Duc Pho town.
According to the delegation, the UNDP Small Grants Programme (SGP) has funded 136 countries, with more than 27,300 projects, with a total funding of nearly 753 million USD. There are currently 1,771 projects being implemented, with funding of 62.9 million USD.
The projects contribute to biodiversity conservation, adaptation and mitigation of climate change impacts, prevention of land degradation and desertification, sustainable forest management, waste and plastic waste management.

SGP's small grant program has funded social organizations in 45 provinces and cities, with 183 community projects. Thereby, affirming the position and role of community organizations and social organizations in environmental protection and sustainable livelihood development, contributing significantly to socio -economic development and poverty reduction.
In Quang Ngai alone, from 2001 to present, there have been 5 funded projects, with a total capital of more than 138.7 thousand USD. Specifically, the projects are: Building and developing a model of coastal rural communities using energy saving and efficiency in Binh Son district; Building a model of conservation and development of the indigenous Hre chicken breed to ensure sustainability and livelihood for the Hre ethnic community in Ba To district; Sustainable livelihood for the coastal community of Binh Son through empowering the community to preserve ecosystems and indigenous knowledge culture in the context of industrialization and modernization.
Develop the project "Conservation of seaweed beds in coastal communes of Binh Son district associated with sustainable livelihoods of the community"; Develop the project "Enhancing the capacity of salt farming communities in preserving traditions, salt culture, protecting the environment and biodiversity in the traditional salt fields of Sa Huynh".

Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Hoang Tuan thanked the working group of UNDP and GEF SGP for their attention and creating favorable conditions for the province to benefit from the projects; agreed to accept two projects, including: "Conserving seaweed beds in coastal communes of Binh Son district associated with sustainable livelihoods of the community" and "Enhancing the capacity of salt-farming communities in preserving traditions, salt culture, protecting the environment and biodiversity in the traditional salt fields of Sa Huynh".
At the same time, Binh Son district, Duc Pho town and related departments and branches are required to closely coordinate with UNDP and GEF SGP to soon complete the procedures for receiving and implementing projects.
