On the same day, the delegation visited the health of the mother whose hand was successfully reattached, and presented 10 million VND and a gift of encouragement to share with the patient during the treatment and recovery process.
Previously in September, Ms. LN.P. (20 years old, currently 23 weeks pregnant with twins) was hospitalized with a crushed lower third of her forearm and a completely severed right hand due to a work accident. The health of Ms. P. and her fetuses faced many risks.
To preserve as much living tissue as possible and facilitate the subsequent reattachment surgery, the surgical team decided to temporarily transplant the hand to the right leg, maintaining continuous blood flow for nearly two months. This is a rare, complex microsurgical technique that requires close monitoring and multidisciplinary coordination.
On November 28, when the fetus was 34 weeks old, doctors from the orthopedic trauma department, in coordination with the surgery - anesthesia and resuscitation department, the obstetrics and gynecology team and many related units, performed a surgery lasting more than 12 hours to separate the hand from the temporary graft site and reattach it to its original anatomical position.
The vascular - tendon - nerve system is re-established with extremely sophisticated microsurgical techniques, ensuring blood circulation to the transplanted limb, while continuously monitoring fetal activity throughout the surgery.
After surgery, the patient's hand was warm and pink, had light movement and continued to be rehabilitated according to the protocol.
