Ukraine was dragged into the conflict without a plan . Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the European Union (EU) bears a moral responsibility for dragging Ukraine into the conflict without presenting a clear plan for the country; it is too early to negotiate Kiev's accession to the EU, as there is no precise information about Ukraine's borders and population.
“ The first question is whether Ukraine will exist as a state in the future. We are morally responsible for dragging Ukraine into the conflict by promising support without a clear plan. If we continue in that spirit, Ukraine will be destroyed. Under such conditions, talks on Ukraine’s membership are premature. First, Ukraine’s borders and population must be clarified ,” Orban stressed.
Earlier, Bloomberg quoted sources as saying that Hungary was preventing EU countries from reaching an agreement allowing negotiations to begin on Ukraine's accession to the bloc.
Germany opposes sending military instructors to Ukraine . German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius opposes sending military instructors to Ukrainian territory. Mr. Pistorius stated this information during a visit to a barracks in eastern Germany, where Ukrainian armed forces are training to work with Patriot air defense systems.
According to Minister Pistorius, “no one has yet been able to explain to him what the advantages of teaching on Ukrainian territory are.”
Kremlin speaks out about Poland allowing the use of weapons to attack Russia . Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is aware of the statement of Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk that Warsaw has allowed Ukraine to use weapons it supplied to attack Russian targets.
Mr. Peskov noted that the country has repeatedly spoken out about its reaction in case Ukraine uses Western weapons to attack Russian territory. “We have spoken out many times, and President Putin also answered this question yesterday in an interview with the press at the end of his visit to Uzbekistan. I advise you to remember only the words of the President,” the Kremlin representative added.
Sending troops to Ukraine would draw the West into the conflict . Ralph Thiele, a former German colonel who served in the Planning Department of the German Defense Minister and the Private Office of NATO's Supreme Commander, said that Western countries would become parties to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia if they sent troops to Ukraine.
According to Mr. Thiele, if Western countries send military units to Ukraine, they will take over the core tasks of the Ukrainian armed forces.
“ The West will become a party to the conflict and in the near future will also be a target for Russian attacks. This will be the beginning of the West’s involvement in the armed confrontation. Moreover, such a move would mean entering World War III ,” the former German colonel said.
Poland builds 7-layer defense shield to counter Russia. The Polish Ministry of Defense recently announced the “Eastern Shield” project, which is said to be an activity to strengthen the eastern border with Russia and Belarus.
Poland says it is the biggest defence effort on NATO's eastern flank since the end of World War II in 1945.
According to the Polish Ministry of Defense, a diagram has been published showing part of the shield that Poland plans to deploy on the border. The defense system includes fixed fences, barbed wire, anti-tank trenches, anti-tank obstacles, mines, another layer of trenches, and vegetation.
The project will strengthen Poland's resistance capabilities, limit enemy mobility, and protect Polish soldiers and civilians, said Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army, General Wiesław Kukuła.
By 2028, Poland plans to complete the construction of fortifications, detection and warning systems, advanced bases, logistics centers and UAV countermeasure systems on the borders with Russia and Belarus.
