(Dan Tri) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kiev's biggest challenge is that so far, only 1/10 of the weapons that the US pledged to provide aid in 2024 have been delivered to the front line.

According to the Kiev Post , President Volodymyr Zelensky's recent statement that only 10% of the military aid promised to Ukraine by the US this year has actually reached Kiev has some basis.
Earlier, at a press conference in Reykjavik, Mr. Zelensky said that one of the many problems Ukraine had in its war with Russia was that the promised weapons aid from its allies arrived too late or did not arrive at all. This affected Ukraine's battle plan.
According to Mr. Zelensky, 90% of military aid approved by the US Congress for fiscal year 2024 has not yet been delivered to the Ukrainian battlefield.
"This is the problem. What should Ukraine do when Russia gains momentum on the Eastern front? Ukraine must consider the number of reserves, special brigades, count the military equipment that is being provided (from the US).
But the problem is that Ukraine has only received 10% of that even though the aid packages have been voted on. The US Congress has approved them. The problem is not money, but administrative procedures and logistics," said Mr. Zelensky.
The US has not officially commented on the figure given by Mr. Zelensky.
However, the Kiev Post relied on the numbers released by the Pentagon to calculate the actual weapons delivered to Ukraine this year.
The US suspended most military aid to Ukraine in December last year due to disagreements between Democrats and Republicans. This period lasted for five months until US President Joe Biden signed a law in April to provide $60.84 billion in aid to Ukraine, expected to be completed by the end of fiscal year 2024.
Since then, the Pentagon has been disbursing the aid, mostly by withdrawing existing US weapons or ammunition from its warehouses and transferring them to Ukraine. The aid money will be used to buy new weapons to make up for the withdrawn amount.
However, according to the Kyiv Post , each month the Pentagon only disburses less than $1 billion in weapons, much less than the amount they need to spend to ensure the nearly $61 billion in aid that the US has committed.
According to Pentagon figures released in December 2023, the total value of aid to Ukraine from February 2022 to the above-mentioned date is 44.9 billion USD. A Pentagon press release on October 21 showed that the total amount of money the US has actually spent on Ukraine to date is 59.5 billion USD.
Thus, the US has spent 14.6 billion USD to aid Ukraine as of October this year, equal to 25% of the plan they approved in April.
However, according to the Kyiv Post , of the $14.6 billion, Ukrainian soldiers have actually received $6 billion worth of weapons. The remaining $8.6 billion in weapons are in the form of having been spent but not yet delivered to the battlefield, meaning they are still in the distribution process.
This is the reason why Mr. Zelensky complained about the slow pace of weapons arriving in Ukraine, only reaching 1/10 of this year's target.
