President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine would lose if it lost unity and no longer received US military aid.
Fox News on November 19 aired an exclusive interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to mark the 1,000th day of war with Russia. In the interview, Mr. Zelensky said that unity is now the decisive factor in the outcome of the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says conflict depends on unity
"The current stage depends on unity in Ukraine. And I also think it would be dangerous if we lost unity in Europe and the most important thing is unity between Ukraine and the United States," Mr. Zelensky said.
The leader believes that diplomacy is the only way to end the war. Much depends on Russian President Vladimir Putin, but according to Mr. Zelensky, the US has a bigger say. "The US has a huge influence," Mr. Zelensky said. According to him, the US president has the power and authority to reduce energy prices, an important source of income for Russia.
Russian President Warns US With New Nuclear Doctrine
When asked about the possibility of the US cutting off aid, the Ukrainian President admitted that he would likely lose if that happened. "If they cut it, I think we will lose. Of course we will stay and fight. We have production but not enough to win, to survive," President Zelensky affirmed.
US President-elect Donald Trump has said he would end the conflict in Ukraine quickly but has not outlined a plan. Observers predict he will use aid to Ukraine to pressure Kyiv into negotiations while demanding more from Europe.
Mr. Zelensky met Mr. Trump in New York in September.
President Joe Biden recently authorized Ukraine to use long-range missiles provided by Washington to attack Russian territory. The decision was made when Biden was in the final months of his term and had previously firmly refused despite Kyiv's appeal.
Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. criticized the move, accusing "the US military industry of seemingly wanting World War 3 before my father had a chance to bring peace and save lives."
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, a vocal Trump supporter, said funding foreign conflicts goes against the will of voters. “We want to fix our problems,” Green wrote on social media platform X.
In a related development, The Kyiv Independent cited information from the US saying that this week the Biden administration will approve a new military aid package worth 275 million USD for Ukraine, including air defense missiles, long-range HIMARS rockets, artillery shells... The most recent aid package was announced earlier this month, worth 425 million USD.
