At the meeting, Mr. Hoang Xuan Dep, Deputy Head of the Ethnic Minorities Committee of Ha Giang province, on behalf of the delegation, reported some results of implementing ethnic policies to the leaders of the Ethnic Minorities Committee. Accordingly, Ha Giang is a province in the northern mountainous region of the country, the whole province has over 900,000 people, with 19 ethnic groups living together, ethnic minorities account for more than 87% of the population. In the area, there are ethnic groups still facing many difficulties including: Phu La, La Chi, Mong. Especially, 05 ethnic groups still have specific difficulties including: Pu Peo, Bo Y, Co Lao, Lo Lo, Pa Then.
In recent years, with the support of the Party and State as well as the attention, leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels in the province, the socio -economic situation of ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Ha Giang province has achieved many important results, thereby improving the lives of the people.
Up to now, 100% of communes have hardened roads to the commune center; 100% of villages and hamlets have roads accessible to motor vehicles to the center; the poverty rate in ethnic minority areas has decreased by an average of 5.99%; poor districts and especially disadvantaged communes have decreased by over 6%/year; the economic structure continues to shift in a positive direction...
The quality of education in ethnic minority and mountainous areas has been improved; the scale of schools and classes at all levels in ethnic minority areas has been expanded. Localities have done a good job of taking care of people's health, preventing major epidemics from occurring in the area; the work of preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of ethnic groups has been given attention; national defense and security have been maintained; ethnic minorities in the province are always united, striving to rise up, actively participating in the work of building the Party, the political system and the Great National Unity bloc.
Speaking at the meeting, the delegates expressed their joy and excitement when visiting the capital Hanoi and being welcomed by the leaders of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities. On this occasion, the delegates said that although the Party and the State have had many support policies, the ethnic minority areas of Ha Giang province still face many difficulties and limitations in economic conditions, terrain, transportation, uneven educational levels, and many backward customs. The delegates hope that the Committee for Ethnic Minorities will pay more attention to the lives of ethnic minorities in Ha Giang; have an economic development strategy to help stabilize production for ethnic people; promote the preservation and promotion of cultural values, etc.
During the discussion, Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman Nong Thi Ha highly appreciated the contributions and efforts of ethnic people in Ha Giang province in recent times in socio-economic development and maintaining security and order in the locality.
