This year, lychees from the Central Highlands and the North flooded into Saigon market earlier than every year with a selling price of 30,000-35,000 VND per kilogram, down 10-30% compared to last year.

VnExpress 's observations at Ba Chieu market (Binh Thanh), Xom Moi (Go Vap) and Tan Dinh (District 1) showed that lychees were piled up in large piles, taking up 2/3 of the stall area.

Ms. Hanh, a fruit vendor at Ba Chieu market, said that this year, lychees have arrived in large quantities at prices 10,000-20,000 VND lower than the same period last year, attracting customers. "Every day I can sell 50-100 kg of lychees at 30,000-35,000 VND per kg," Ms. Hanh said.

Similarly, Ms. Loan - owner of a fruit shop on Le Duc Tho Street (Go Vap) - said that last year she imported lychees by air at a price of 70,000-90,000 VND per kilogram, now it is 45,000 VND. This type of lychee does not get wormy or waterlogged like other types of lychee used by regular buses. Therefore, by around 10am, Ms. Loan's stall had sold out two boxes of lychees (50 kg).

Speaking to VnExpress , Mr. Nguyen Binh Phuong, Deputy Director of the Business Department of Thu Duc Agricultural Wholesale Market, said that this year, lychees from the regions arrived in Ho Chi Minh City earlier than every year. From the end of April until now, this market has consumed nearly 5,400 tons of lychees. Of which, 3,000 tons were imported from Dak Lak , 2,400 tons from the North. Currently, the wholesale price for goods shipped by container is 25,000-28,000 VND, lychees shipped by plane are 33,000-35,000 VND.

"Lychee is in season now, the quantity is coming to the market in large quantities so the price is very competitive and cheaper than every year," said Mr. Phuong.

In addition to traditional markets, modern supermarket chains also import large quantities of fabric, increasing by 10-30% compared to last year. Most supermarket chains have reduced prices to stimulate demand, some by nearly half, and display them attractively in beautiful locations.

At Central Retail supermarket chain, lychee is priced at 59,000 VND, reduced to 22,900 VND per kg. Co.opmart sells grade 1 products at a promotion price of 34,800 VND, Win chain in the South sells for 39,900 VND per kg.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van - Communications Director of Central Retail Group - said that 300 tons of lychee will be sold throughout the system, an increase of 30% compared to last year, of which the South will consume 250 tons. In addition, the group also exports lychee to Thailand.

Similarly, a representative of the General Trading Services Joint Stock Company (WCM) said it plans to consume about 200 tons of Luc Ngan lychee at more than 3,500 supermarkets and WinMart/ WinMart+ stores nationwide.

In addition, supermarket systems said they will sell on e-commerce platforms to spread the brand and value of this fruit to consumers.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang , the total lychee output of the province this year is estimated at about 180,000 tons. The Department has discussed and worked with corporations, distribution systems, supermarkets, and wholesale markets in the provinces and cities to connect lychee consumption. To date, the province has signed 35 memorandums of understanding to commit to consuming more than 100,000 tons of lychee and organized many trade promotion programs in the US, Japan, and China markets.

To date, more than 200 Chinese traders have registered, over 30 traders have come to supervise the raw material area, sign contracts to purchase and consume lychee.

The People's Committee of Luc Ngan District (Bac Giang) said that this year, Luc Ngan litchi continues to have outstanding quality and beautiful appearance. With more than 17,300 hectares, the total litchi output of the district is estimated at 98,000 tons.

This year, Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang) has many new ways to increase the value of lychee, such as building tours, eco- tourism routes, experiencing lychee picking or selling whole lychees according to the model "Home garden lychee".

Luc Ngan has digitized the codes of fabric production areas, linked to electronic logbooks to trace the origin of products. Of these, 35 codes of growing areas meet export standards to the Chinese market; 19 codes for the US, Australia, and EU markets; 32 codes for Japan; 2 codes for Thailand; The district also manages 173 codes of packaging facilities that meet export standards.
