The program includes a panel discussion and an exhibition showcasing the activities of Vietnamese youth on issues related to climate change.
This is the third discussion session within the framework of "Hanoi Climate Dialogue", a series of events to discuss various topics related to climate change.
The theme of the latest panel discussion highlighted the vital role of youth in driving climate action, advocating for sustainable practices and shaping equitable futures for their communities.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Simon Kreye, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, stressed that due to global warming, children born today are seven times more likely to face extreme weather events than their grandparents. Typhoon Yagi is a recent tragic example.
Therefore, youth engagement is key to addressing climate change. Firstly, young people bring fresh perspectives and innovative solutions. Secondly, engaging youth in decision-making processes ensures that policies reflect the needs of future generations, according to the deputy ambassador.
Following the discussion, the Academy of Journalism and Communication hosted a youth-centered exhibition featuring young climate ambassadors from the Green Youth Labs project - a training and innovation program sponsored by the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
The event helped audiences learn about Vietnam’s current energy transition, raised awareness of the need for climate action in one of the countries most affected by climate change, and encouraged them to get involved.
