Vietnamese para-badminton player Van Anh Tuan (26 years old) won his first international bronze medal at the Japan Para Badminton International 2025 under the Badminton World Federation (BWF) system, marking a memorable milestone in his sports journey.

The medal came from the men's doubles category SU5 (Standing Upper 5) - for athletes competing standing, with mild upper limb disabilities according to BWF classification. Paired with Mohammad Ali Imam (Bangladesh) for the first time, Van Anh Tuan showed impressive performance when he and his teammates passed the group stage to qualify for the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, despite their best efforts, Tuan and his teammates lost to the reigning runner-up of this event, Hardik Makkar - Ruthick Ragupathi (India) with a score of 10-21, 18-21, thereby receiving a bronze medal.

In the group stage of Group B, the pair Tuan and Imam convincingly defeated the duo Michael Simpkins (Australia) and Thomas Slade (New Zealand) in two sets (21-13, 21-8), only to lose to Fang Jen-Yu and Pu Gui Yu (Chinese Taipei), who later also won the bronze medal in third place overall after losing to the champion duo from Malaysia.

After the tournament in Japan, Van Anh Tuan will continue to represent Vietnam at the 13th Southeast Asian Para Games (ASEAN Para Games 2025), held in Korat (Thailand).

This tournament is expected to be a stepping stone for Anh Tuan to continue bringing glory to Vietnamese disabled sports.
