This stamp set commemorates the 80th anniversary of the first issue of the United Nations Journal.
Designed by UN artist Rorie Katz, the stamps measure 40.6 mm x 29.8 mm and have a face value of US$1.70, equivalent to the US international postage rate. These stamps are used at the UNPA post office at UN headquarters in New York. Each stamp sheet contains 10 stamps measuring 279.4 mm x 215.9 mm. The designs depict UN delegates, officials, and staff reading the magazine. To the right of each stamp is an adjacent sticker displaying the publication's title or the magazine's first pages in various languages, and can be personalized with an alternative image to the original design.
The United Nations Journal was launched alongside the first session of the United Nations General Assembly on January 10, 1946. According to the UNPA, the Journal “documented the development of multilateralism while maintaining access to the work of the Organization.”
The issuance of this commemorative stamp offers a moment to reflect on the Journal's pivotal role in preserving the United Nations' heritage while continuously adapting to the demands of a digitally connected world .
