Located in Na Hau Nature Reserve, Na Hau commune has 30 rare medicinal plants such as: cardamom, polygonum multiflorum, honeysuckle, cardamom, culy hair, polyscias fruticosa, passion flower... Exploiting the potential and advantages of the locality in developing agricultural tourism associated with exploiting medicinal areas, the commune strengthens propaganda and promotion on mass media and digital platforms; calls for investment resources, promotes socialization in tourism development, major festivals; encourages households to develop homestay tourism models.
Mr. Ly Ton Cau - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: "Currently, Na Hau has developed 5 homestay community tourism models. The models focus on exploiting the strengths of agricultural products, serving tourists well in accommodation, sightseeing, and experience. In 2024, the commune will welcome nearly 8,000 visitors, with revenue reaching over 10 billion VND".
Van Yen district has potential and advantages when it has medicinal herbs in Na Hau commune nature reserve, medicinal herbs of Solanum procumbens in Dong An commune, medicinal herbs of Gynostemma pentaphyllum in Tan Hop commune... and especially cinnamon trees grown in many localities. In addition, ethnic minorities in the district also preserve a lot of knowledge about medicinal herbs, processing and usage methods.
In medicinal areas, there are always mountains, forests, rivers, streams, waterfalls... creating beautiful natural landscapes, attractive destinations for tourists. In recent years, Van Yen has taken the first steps in developing agricultural tourism associated with medicinal herbs. Some tourism products have been formed such as tours to visit medicinal herb gardens, experience the process of processing medicinal herbs, medicinal baths, enjoy dishes made from medicinal herbs...
Along with that, the district focuses on developing OCOP products, many OCOP products related to medicinal herbs have been built and promoted, contributing to increasing product value and income for people such as: CND Solanum procumbens gel ready to drink of Yen Bai Agricultural Production Service Cooperative, Dai Phac commune; pure cinnamon essential oil of Thac Tien General Service Cooperative, Mo Vang commune; off-season tomatoes of Trung Thanh Organic Agricultural Service Cooperative, Yen Hop commune; cinnamon essential oil of Lam Phuong Linh Cooperative, Dai Phac commune; Lam Giang green-skinned grapefruit of Lam Giang Grapefruit Growing Cooperative; vegetable essential oil, Dai Phu An cinnamon essential oil, Dai Phu An lemongrass essential oil of Dai Phu An Nam Duoc Joint Stock Company; Phuong Nhung cinnamon powder of Phuong Nhung Van Yen Private Enterprise... Some enterprises have invested in the field of medicinal tourism, contributing to improving service quality such as: Dai Phu An Nam Duoc Joint Stock Company, Yen Bai Agricultural Production Service Cooperative.
Mr. Le Thanh Hung - Vice Chairman of Van Yen District People's Committee said: "In 2025, the district will focus on developing herbal bath services at the hot spring area of Cao Son village, Ban Lung village, Lang Than village, Phong Du Thuong commune and in Vien Son and Dai Son communes, where there are many precious medicinal plants; organize cultural festivals associated with medicinal herbs; develop agricultural tourism products combined with eco-tourism and community tourism; invest in upgrading tourism infrastructure, training high-quality human resources, applying service standards according to regulations; build more typical tourism brands; organize tourism promotion events, use modern communication channels for promotion; support medicinal herb producers to improve product quality, build brands; create conditions for producers to link with each other and with tourism businesses to promote products".
Developing agricultural tourism associated with the exploitation of medicinal herbs has opened up a new direction for the socio-economic development of Van Yen. In 2024, the district welcomed 235,000 overnight guests, with revenue reaching 255 billion VND, equal to 150% of the plan. In order for this type of tourism to develop further, Van Yen will continue to promote and advertise tourism on media channels and digital platforms to widely promote it to people and tourists. At the same time, the district continues to invest in completing synchronous tourism infrastructure, attracting resources to develop agricultural tourism, contributing to promoting rapid and sustainable socio-economic development.
