At the end of the session on October 19, the price of 9999 gold bars at SJC Ho Chi Minh City was 69.9 million VND/tael (buy) and 70.6 million VND/tael (sell). SJC Hanoi listed at 69.9 million VND/tael (buy) and 70.62 million VND/tael (sell).
DOJI Hanoi listed at 69.65 million VND/tael (buy) and 70.6 million VND/tael (sell). DOJI Ho Chi Minh City bought SJC gold at 69.9 million VND/tael and sold at 70.6 million VND/tael.
The central exchange rate on October 20, 2023 announced by the State Bank is 24,110 VND/USD, an increase of 10 VND compared to yesterday. The USD price at commercial banks this morning (October 20) was traded around 24,320 VND/USD (buy) and 24,690 VND/USD (sell).
International gold price today October 20, 2023
At 9:24 a.m. today (October 19, Vietnam time), the world spot gold price stood at around 1,978.4 USD/ounce, up 27.4 USD/ounce compared to last night. The price of gold futures for December delivery on the Comex New York floor was at 1,990.4 USD/ounce.
Gold prices on the world market increased today. Spot gold price on Kitco (at 9:00 p.m., Vietnam time) was at $1,951/ounce.
At the current price, the world gold price converted to VND (including tax and processing fee), the difference between domestic and world SJC gold prices is about 11.72 million VND/tael.
The US Labor Department said weekly jobless claims fell by 13,000 to 198,000. The data was better than expected, with economists forecasting a rise of 210,000.
US retail sales rose 0.7% in September. While revised data for August showed retail sales rising 0.8% instead of the previously reported 0.6%. Economists had forecast retail sales rising just 0.3% in September.
Core retail sales are closely related to the consumer spending component of gross domestic product (GDP).
Better-than-expected jobs growth and consumer price index data in September are increasing the risk that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates in December.
Meanwhile, gold prices have been volatile amid escalating violence in the Middle East, prompting traders and investors to seek safe-haven assets like gold.
Gold Price Forecast
Gold is considered a safe store of value in times of political and financial instability.
Ryan McIntyre, an expert at Sprott Asset Management, said gold prices could break the $2,000/ounce mark in the near future if the conflict escalates.
JPMorgan forecasts spot gold prices will average around $1,920 an ounce in the fourth quarter of 2023.
